Mike probably sold this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6248969004&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1) for what? $100 or 125 in '98? When it first was listed I figured there was no way it would sell for $1400, but sadly I was wrong.

Sadly this is now the state of things, sir. :) Gone are the days of picking up nice Mignola sketches or pages for prices that don't require the sale of a first born, or the down payment of an arm and or leg. :D

An arm or a leg you say? Hmmmmmm.

Can you imagine something you've drawn selling for that much on ebay? Or, have a huge following just because of your job?

Many an artists lament I'm afraid, Adam. :) I don't think even Mike Mignola would have ever guessed his work would be this popular or saught after. Granted, he may have hoped and prayed that someday it would, but I doubt he could have ever truly guessed at it.

In '98, I'd say this went for something like $60. Incredibly, the man devalued his stuff back then. That price is insanity (which makes me glad I didn't sell all of my pin-ups at a fraction of that a couple of years ago).

That seems a little crazier than usual and it went at the "Buy-it-Now" price. Was this just someone with significant disposable income wanting to snatch it before anyone else did?

We've seen pages go for this much, but not sketches. The prices are getting crazy, but I call "aberration" on this one. At least for now. In another year or two, probably this will EDIT: from "Be the norm" to "seem cheap". :(

Yeah, but understandably his prices are already going up. I purchased a BPRD: Plague of Frogs page from him earlier in 2005, but attempted a recent purchase only to found out that his page prices have increased a bit more than I was prepared for.

Again, I understand the price hike (increased popularity, etc.) but I'm pretty much priced out of the game for now.

The other thing to remember is that a single e-bay auction is not indicative of the market, necessarily. Some people just get stupid. I've seen people drive an auction up to 2 or 3 times the average selling price only to have the next few auctions of the same be back near the average. AS was said before aberration.
