Hey! I never realized there was an Image part of this forum! Thought I'd throw some stuff out and move away from my old thread. Here's the cover for Portent #2 and a link to www.theportent.com where I just uploaded a bunch of stuff (yeah!). Hope all of you who bought Portent #1 sticks around for the next issue. There's so much going on through issue 2-4 that I want to tell you about but at the same time I don't want to spoil anything.

Anyways, here's the cover for #2.

Cheers

Peter

Good luck, i hope we will see more comics from you in the future.
I'm an old RPG player so i have seen a lot of your art in those books, but this is something different.

I really want to give this book a try. I just recrently got back into comics after years of being away from them, and I've been looking for some brand spanking new comics to start off with. So far, Knights of the Old Republic is the only comic I have that is just starting out.

I really hate being left in the dark with comics. I like to know what's going on, just like anyone else would. I'm going to give the Portent a try soon too. I read their 4 or 5 page preview over at Imagecomics.com, and for what little they showed, it seemed like it could be a fun comic to get into. Here's to hoping it's a top contender!

Also, I don't really have the cash to pick up tpbs for the other books I read right now, so I'm kind of stuck being left in the dark. Really a lame position to be in, but that's the way it is I guess.

I have just read issue 1. I think the art and the setting are great and the story begins interessting, so i am waiting for issue 2.

Is the Portent a mini or an ongoing?

Thanks guys!

In my very personal opinion, number two will be better than #1 since I can get to explore the world and the characters more. #2 also has some neato plot twists. Since this is my first real comic that I'm doing regulary I was anxious to see what people thought. I completed issue 2 before I had even a snippet of feedback from #1. I'm getting more confident drawing and telling the story with each page so I'm hoping people will come back for more =). It sort of relies on single issue sales but even if it drops below the kill line I will finish up the first arc and see how the TPB goes. Early reports from retailers I've spoken with are positive though.

Again, thanks all! I'm going to stop by regularly so feel free to ask anything!

As always, I try to post as much as possible over at my blog www.theportent.com for those who are interested in looking at sketches and stuff like that.

Cheers

Hm... just realized that more people are responding to the Portent thread on the Hellboy section. Er... how does this work, do people read both threads or shall I stick to one.

Peter

I have read issue 1, confusing so far, but somebody said it gets clearer later.
So i don't know what to say about the comic more than that i liked the art in it.

Hej! En svensk =),

Liking the art is a good start, and it does get clearer, half the fun (for me at least) is to keep some of the truths from the reader until it's "time".

Jo, jag är svensk, men jag hoppas det inte gör nåt:)
Ok, i have now read #2 that shows more of the world, i must say your art style is very fitting to this type of story.
I look forward to see more issues of this and hopefully other comics by you in the future, there is not many swedish international comic creators so this is something i will follow with intrest.

Hey!

It's a shame really. I know Kellerman was really successful and I think Elvis would be a big hit. Not many "superhero" comics though. Not that Portent is superhero or anything but you know what I mean... I hope more Swedish artists and writers try to get published.

Cheers

No, but superhero comics is a american thing mostly, in Europe there is no tradition of superheroes (except maybe Britain).

As you see The Phantom is bigger than any superhero in Sweden.

But it seems that your comics must be superhero based to sell well in USA and that's a shame.
But fantasy is a big thing when it comes to text books so why not in comics.
Comics with it's possibilitys to really show things to the reader would work well with fantasy i think.

Even if the writing can't be anything like a text book i think the Hedge Knight written by George RR Martin is a very good example of what could be done, it don't have to be as shallow as most fantasy comics have been (Conan etc.).

Hey!

You're absolutely right (about the superhero ratio in europe). Come to think of it, there are precious few traditional superhero comics in europe, or sweden (not counting Kapten Stofil). But, I don't think a book has to be about superheros to sell in the US, though looking at the charts I'm obviously wrong since you have to go for books around the 80th position (Jonah Hex, Fables etc) with the majority of the chart being taken up by superheros. I wouldn't mind doing a superhero book, not at all, I'm all for the mythos and pshychological aspects of it. I think it all boils down to familiarity. The chart toppers are all household names and have been for years. It's unlikely that any new title will be able to penetrate that chart unless you magically succeed in getting some crossover appeal with your own book or break out with a fresh title from an existing (Hellblazer being a perfect example, save for the fact that JC has had brushes with the superhero world a few times).

Cheers

Peter
