View Full Version : City of Heroes question for Gail, or anyone else, preferably Gail. =P

Ok, so the question is for you Gail (don't you feel lucky =P), or anyone else who plays City of Villains/Heroes.
I got CoH a while back, but didn't have a good enough graphic card, so I never played it, but next week I'm getting a new computer, and I will be able to play it.
So my question is, seen as CoV is out does that make CoH, obsolete, or do they play together, for example could your villain meet my hero in the game, or is CoH a completely different game and on a completely different server etc.?
Sorry if this sound confusing, I hope you get what I'm trying to ask, and thanx to anyone who replies. ^^

In the story the heroes control Paragon City and the villains control the Rogue Islands. Between these two areas are Islands where both sides are fighting for control. My villains and your heroes can meet and fight on these neutral Islands.

Oh, that's pretty cool, and do many people do that, or do most people have CoV now?

Most people seem to play both. No extra subscription fee, just the buying of the game.
On the occasions I go into PVP, there seems as many heroes as villains.

Thing is, levelling won't happen that much during PVP.
Although you can get cool stuff DURING PVP that will help you with levlling.

They just put a non-combat zone for Heroes AND villains in the test server too.

Sweet!
Wait, how's that supposed to work out? Heroes and Villians chilling together with no beatings?!?

It's a big dance club in the middle of a different dimension. Even Joe Young and Cornelius from the MFC are there :D

My first character, Golden Harrier (Tech blaster, fire/gadgets, famed for the eventually-nerfed "falcon strike" but extant "eagle strike") is one of the DJs at the Paragon Dance Club. I know he's been in fanfic and I think in one of the comics (or will be). He may be appearing elsewhere in the future too.
Block rockin' beatdowns a specialty.
CoV is pretty great as far as content & details go... it has spiffy small things, like, CoV has seagulls at the docks & stuff. Good atmosphere. CoH's Paragon City is mostly a clean urban setting, but CoV has many more diverse areas than CoH. CoH should be due for a big spruce-up soonish.
Amazingly, though, NCsoft hasn't tapped the pro comics/pro fiction talent of the people (like Gail, Misty, me, etc) who actually adore and PLAY the game. Guest-written adventures by major comics & fantasy writers? Sounds like a pull to me. :)

I know you can get better frame rate performance by turning down screen resolution, particle count, and some of the lighting effects. Depth of field stuff too. Misty plays on dialup every once in a while, on a laptop.

Absolutely. I have a relatively new (< 1 year old) computer, and it still struggles with CoV sometimes. Especially that friggin' Arachnos base map, which is always insta-lag.

Checked it out with Duane last night...
It's going to be great once they get the contacts and missions loaded. It's got Inspiration Dispensers and Reclaimators!!!
Although, the hero bathrooms are kind of scary... there is a menacing fog floating near the doors. :p

I may be mistaken, but Mark Waid wrote the first few issues of the Top Cow City of Heroes comic, and in one of the first issues in the text features,Mercedes Lackey(i hope i spelled it correctly..very tired as i write this)wrote the fanfic.
You,Gail, and Misty should send in(Thou Gail might not be able to,due to her exclusive with DC).

Actually, I believe Misty is Mercedes Lackey.
And I think what Larry Dixon means is getting him or Gail or Mercedes Lackey to write ingame missions or story arcs.

Now... I'd really like a Gail-inspired one.

Some of the ravers are random from groups in the game. Spectral Pirate Raver!

They have a pretty good record of putting patches in on Tuesdays, but there's no ETA. It shouldn't be long, though, it's a small patch and not a major update. Lotsa good stuff in this patch, too.

AVs give double XP now, but if you have less than three members, it is an Elite Boss instead.

Wow. When I took on Vahz, I was the one drawing the agro... and I found him to be less difficult han people had led me to expect.
I may have to get in on a Vahz-team. Or finally go back and get the Clockwork King.

Hey, that's an INFINITE crossover!
With OMACs!
In a plotline that will take 300+ issues to tell, at an approximate cost of $900!
