Tom pointed out that the point of the film was to reach as wide an audience as possible. My guess, and that’s all it is, is that Ang deliberately cast the love scenes and the kissing in shadow and let our imagines fill in what they did and were doing as to not scare away the heterosexual viewers. I think one of the points of this movie was to educate a straight audience about gays and their plights regarding society sanctions on them if they make their love public. Damn shame he failed at that.
