So, now that we are almost a month out of 2005, its as good a time as any to look back and make a judgment of the year as a whole.
With all the new releases, new creative teams, different aproaches, what did you think of the year for Ultimate Marvel? Yay or nay?

Yay, because The Ultimates was great (if not particularly frequent) and Vaughan's run on Ultimate X-Men may well be my favorite. Ultimate Spider-Man wasn't quite so interesting, but hey.

IMO, every single Ultimate book has delivered so far. I loved the 2005 Ultimate year!!!

YAY.
Ultimate X-Men-BKV and Immonen were one hell of a team.BKV's entire run on the title is essential reading for any newcomer to UXM.While some may disregard his version of Sinister,BKV gave us some of the best character work the title has had.Plus new mutants such as Havok,Polaris,Cannonball,Sunspot,Northstar,Longsho t,Deathstrike, and Mystique.Characters such as Dazzler and Gambit made their way back after being used by other writers and were done really well by BKV.Magnetic North was one of the best UXM arcs to date and there was no better way to go out for the creative team.
Ultimate F4-Ellis finished off his sci-fi adventure "N-Zone" which was really good. However, the best was yet to come when Millar and Land took over with issue #21.Now we're at #26 plus an annual and people cannot get enough of this book.Definitely one of the best runs on the title,or even in the Ultimate universe for that matter.Namor,Inhumans,Frightful Four,Reed's amazing out of this world inventions and we're only half way!!!!Jack Kirby would be proud.
Ultimates 2-What can I say that hasn't been said? The Millar/Hitch duo continue to stun with their controversial yet highly successful take on the Avengers. The Hulk "executed".Thor taken down.Hawkeye's family murdered.Cap taken down. The US under attack with the destruction of the Triskelion and the Statue of Liberty.I mean come on,it doesn't get better than that.
Ultimate Spidey-Not a fan of the title but the "Warriors" arc could not have been ignored.Classic Marvel characters such as Moon Knight,Iron Fist and Shang Chi all get tangled up in a story filled with gang wars, kung fu,bar room brawls,super-hero battle royales, corrupt cops and gun fights only to name a few things. This arc was just hell breaking loose and I loved it.

All the Ultimate books were great in 05. The Ultimates 2 was great as always, BKV run on Ultimate X-Men was the best thing to happen to the X-Men since Grant Morrison, Ultimate Iron Man was an interesting origin for Ultimate Tony and Mark Millar's run on Ultimate Fantasic Four has been awesome.

Plus he actually succeeded in making Beast's senseless death actually mean something, instead of leaving the fairly hollow feeling that was left in Bendis' wake. I'm still annoyed they killed the character but at least he served a purpose and is still propelling storylines and events forward. :)

I actually re-read the New Mutants arc and totally loved it this time around.I got what Bendis was going for,but I'm also glad this book fell into BKV's hands. He really treated Beast's death with respect and gave it that sense of meaning.

alright, i'll take a swipe at this...
the ultimate titles brought me back to comics, plain and simple...after not reading anything for almost 20 years i fell into the opportunity to start over, to jump a train of creativity based on characters i used to know, but lost touch with, or never knew at all...
i never knew gambit, but his death in the annual meant something...
UFF 19 & 20 were brilliant...
in fact, i loved fury in the ultimates annual as well...
USM makes me laugh and chuckle a bit, i wonder how the kids growing up with the original must have felt...
UXM was perfect...
give arcade an arc to shine...(hey, i'm an arcade mark from waaaaaay back...)
the namor arc in UFF...
gang war in USM...
seeing hawkeye's prowess with utensils...
the sheer chaos that is banner...
wolvie/hulk 1 was awesome, hulk finally achieves pimp status...
the idealistic nature of thor and the feathers he seemed to rustle in these forums...
the toppling of the statue of bigotry in ultimates 9...wake up america
thanks for a great year...

Yay all round it's also the year Bendis Ultimate Spider-Man Annual pretty much showed me why he's the spider-man writer. While I did'nt like Iron Man mini-series or the Ultimates Annual. The rest was done really well all in all a good year and 2006 already shaping up to be a better year.

One more yay from me!
The Ultimates are still my favourite ultimate book, but i also liked many others, such as Ultimate Fantastic four with Millar on board etc...

NAY for most of it. They turned the line into something vomitingly sub-par, from Bendis sucking on US to the moronic Ultimate Iron Freak to the boring zombies of UFF. Not to mention the marathon of sedation that was Ellis dreadful Trilogy.
Only The Ultimates was good(but that`s not a surprise).

Well, the only Ultimate material I read in 2005 was Ultimates 2 (hey, all things considered we got 8 issues plus the Annual) and Wolvie/Hulk 1. Out of that I have to give a YAY because Ultimates 2 topped the orginal run for me and Wolvie/Hulk appears to be some good popcorn variety fun.
I keep putting off BKV's Ultimate X-Men run, but eventually I'll get around to giving it a look. And lord I should, BKV being my current favorite comic scribe and all.

Put off no longer!BKV's run was the best the title has seen in a while.

I started '05 reading Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate FF, Ultimate SM, and The Ultimates. I ended it reading Ultimate FF and the Ultimates. And I am about to drop Ultimate FF. So, nay for me.

It's weird how USM and UXM,2 titles which were oh so hot a couple years ago, have really lacked that "edge" that the 2 new titles (Ultimate F4 and Ultimates) have. But don't get me wrong,I still loved Warriors and BKV on UXM.
