.., and for that matter, what about jeph loeb on the batman/spirit crossover drawn by cooke?

and while we're at it... does anyone else remember getting goosebumps when they heard about jeff smith on captain marvel?

yeah.

did the infinite nonsense eat everything good about comics? really?

edit: (i just realized i haven't posted in a long long time... not since my identity was eaten by the server disintegrating whenever that was. i used to be renaissance man, and i posted a lot. somehow i've stopped. maybe i'll start again. who knows?)

Well, welcome back, whoever you are! :D

The Spirit stuff was supposed to start last month, but it was moved back to June. I was kind of glad this happened because it might've gotten lost in all the Infinite Crisis hoopla. Now, hopefully there won't be as many distractions from the awesomeness of Darwyn Cooke's The Spirit.

As for Jeff Smith's Shazam!: Monster Society of Evil mini, the last we heard it should be coming out later this year. DC wasn't in a terrible rush to put it out so they gave Jeff as much time has he needed.did the infinite nonsense eat everything good about comics? really?Almost. But you can't keep good creators down with crappy editorially-driven event books. We still have Grant Morrison (Seven Soldiers and All-Star Superman), Gail Simone (Birds of Prey and Action Comics) and several other creators who haven't been completely sucked into the Infinite Black Hole.

Oh good. I was so excited about that Cooke/Spirit news.

Strangely enough, recent hints suggest THE SPIRIT is going to spin out of INFINITE CRISIS. DC's made a lot of comments along the lines of a long-time comics character making his debut in the DCU post-INFINITE CRISIS. Can't think of anyone who fits that description better than the Spirit.

The Spirit as part of the DCU is an odd choice, but I think it could work if he makes his debut during the "missing year" where the other superheroes have gone into dormancy.

I really hope that's not the case. I enjoy the DC Universe, but I'd much rather he stand alone in his own universe.

I think the Multiverse worked best when it allowed very disparate characters like the Fawcett characters exist within their own little universe. I can see DC doing the same thing with The Spirit and the Fawcett characters once again.

I think this is why we won't see either the Batman/Spirit or Shazam stories out until Infinite Crisis is finished.

That would be great, for me. Having the Fawcett characters, even the Charlton characters, reside in their own universe would be a nice change back. Heck, bring back the Milestone Universe, too.

Midnighter
Space Ghost
Static

just to name three rumored choices. :)

Spirit works best in his own universe. Leave him out of the DCU.

The three characters you mentioned would be better choices. Well, maybe not Midnighter, who epitomizes the modern-day Wildstorm Universe, but the other two. Unfortunately, the Static appearance has been talked about for years with no apparent progress, so I doubt it's him. Space Ghost would be cool, though.

Ah, screw it. Let's start a rumour that DC's bringing Miracleman back.

Well, don't forget that DC has or will have books that either don't have anything to do with the OYL stuff or exist in a seperate continuity: Warlord, Jonah Hex, Hard Time, Jack Cross, Sgt. Rock, etc.

Any news on this title? I remember in a CSN article, The Spirit was supposed to have a feature with Batman, then his own new series...in December?

See the second post of this thread. It's coming in June.
