"And if 52 wasn't exciting enough already, each issue will be priced at the special, low price of $2.50 U.S."

How depressing is that. $2.50 is the new "official" cheap price of comics. I would reluntantly agree if $1.95 but $2.50 is not a "special, low price." I may have to reconsider getting the title. $2.50 x 52 = $130. Its either drop 4 titles or drop this.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I can understand the necessaties of price increase, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
However, I guess I should be happy. I intend to get 52, and while I'm afraid to do the math of how much it'll all come to, I'm pleased that it isn't quite the $2.99+ price tag I expected.

Given that it's a full-length book by A-list creators, I don't think anyone could really expect it to be any cheaper than that. It would be hard to explain why it should cost less than most of the other basic DCU titles.

Are the Ultimate books still $2.25?

How many pages is it per week? I understood it to be a bit bigger than the average comic, due to the backup story.

Yeah, I'm upset by them hyping it as "Low". I mean, c'mon. But, in the back of my mind, I new it'd come to this, and I'm still psyched for it. Though, you've gotta bet DC figured as much, right?

I know this is killing the industry but at the end of all my current arcs, the most recent being this week's issue of Daredevil, I'm switching to trades. Nothing agaisnt the creators but its just getting too expensive for me.

Trades (and digests) aren't killing the industry, they're allowing books like She-Hulk, Runaways and everything Vertigo to not only survive but thrive!

I recently picked up volume 14 of Ultimate Spider-Man after dropping the monthly by the end of the turgid "Hobgoblin" arc, and it read really damn well. I'm going to just keep getting a ton of these books in tpb if they can deliver as a solid whole, rather than a tortoise-paced monthly.

There is nothing at all wrong with buying trades. Although '52' is probably a book worth getting (if it's worth getting at all) in serial format.

I really have no plans to buy this series. I plan to thumb through it and read what people have to say about it. If there's an arc that interests me I'll read that but I pretty sure I won't be reading the entire run.

But I must admit, for the first time I'm looking at comics and being bothered by the price. I picked up some books this week and most of them were 2.99 and over. 30 bucks for less than 10 books is ridiculous.

No trades until 2007? Jeez.

This is going to be tough for me because I live in the boonies and can only make it to the comic store about once a month. Perhaps twice if I'm really looking forward to something.
I'm going to be perpetually behind. That's of course assuming that DC can pull off this stunt, too. :p

I can afford the rest of the rubbish, besides what I consider the good stuff.

We have " Boonies " here, too.

They usually refer to David Boon, a legendary cricketer.

...but you don't need to know that.

Eh, cheaper than I expected. I was honestly expecting another 2.99 book.

I guess I'm in the minority of hoping/expecting it would be a liitle cheaper, since a weekly series will definitely add up. I need to look at what I buy every month again anyway and budget it up since I just lost my job, so I guess this is a good as time as any. I know I HAVE to read this series, the only upside to the cancellation of Batgirl & Gotham Central is that it frees up a little bit...

At this point I'm buying superhero stuff monthly since I want to keep current, and with the more indie & character-based series I'll wait until trades (ala Ex Machina and probably Amazing Joy Buzzards.) I think trades are helping the industry if anything, companies wouldn't release them like they do if they LOST money on them. I know I've gotten a few friends into comics by using trades when they would never touch a regular issue.

I am with you 100%. I am completely switching to trades once this Captain America arc ends.

I was expecting $2.99 as well so this isn't as bad as it could be. The temptation to switch to trades is a heavy one, especially on my Marvel and Image titles since they're pretty quick to go to trade.

I've recently started ordering my comics from an online friend's shop. 20% off with free shipping and free bags/boards. I don't know how good a deal compared with some of the big guys but, considering my local shop wouldn't even give me free bags and boards, even with the volume of business I do there, it seems like a huge deal to me. The only drawback is having to wait until the end of the month and avoid discussions and spoilers but I'll live.

I agree..2.50,big whoop. I originally heard this was going to be 1.99 as well, but guess it was too expensive to make happen.

I am honestly going to try out the first four issues, and if that dosn't grab me,i plan on dropping the book,no matter "how important" it may be.

I think that extra 50 cents adds up. $0.50 x 52 = $26 they could have spared us. Well, i'm gonna test it out. If I don't like it, really like it, within the first month or so, I'm gonna tell my retailer to cancel it and get whatever he has left that he ordered for me. Then again he should be able to send back things with that deal they got anyway. I acutlaly called him earlier to tell him the news as he keeps forgetting to check sites like CBR and Newsarama.
