I just read that Wizard wrote that Joe Mad and Jeph Loeb are going to take on Ultimates 3.. To me, thats GREAT news since I've been craving Joe Mad comic art since battle chasers went to limbo :P
Only problems i might see is that the book will get a quad-monthly release :P
What do you think about this?

I think we covered this a good 3-4 months ago.
Do a search and you'll find out what everyone thinks.

Crud, when I clicked on this I expected a brand new interview with Joe and Jeph, but instead I got news on something that was announced in March 2005 :( .

Wow that is huge news. Also breaking: Ditko leaving Amazing Spider-Man and an unknown artist named John Romita Sr. to take over pencils.

very funny :P but i have only just read it and didn't realise the news was that old.
Anywee, i've read most of the posts and they mostly say that Mad will damage the feel Hitch has created.. I have read the first few ishes of Ultimates and yes, i agree it will be a totally different feel.. but i've been waiting for Mad to actually pencil comics again for so long that i'd pick up any book that he would start pencilling :P even if it was "TONAMELT" the amazing Ethan Original O_O.. well.. maybe thats a bit too desperate :/

The problem with Mad is not that he's a bad artist, but his complete lack of common sense when it comes to re-designing the Ultimate's costumes (Although I think Loeb may have had a part in it as well).
I mean, look at the size of his Iron Man's head. It's tiny! And it's even inside of a helmet! Tony's actual head would have to be about the size of a baseball for the proportions to work out right. And then Scarlet Witch. What the crap? Even if their reasoning wasn't to try and make her costume more 616-esque, it looks stupid. I mean, a loincloth? WHY? The real kicker, though, is the high heels. That has got to be the stupidest looking, most impractical costume feature I've ever seen. Why would a government super soldier ever wear high heels into battle?
I can't imagine the next season of the Ultimates to even come close to the excellence of Millar/Hitch.

that's the problem, it won't...
this just isn't the right team for this book...it's going to kill it...

Not that I'm defending that, but you know how many female superheroes have high heels? Okay, My roomate can't even go to the bar in high heels without her feet killing her for the next four days, so how the hell can someone run around fighting someone in them?
Stupid comic artists... Everyone should be wearing boots dammit!!!

I dont mind the art at all as long as the story is cool. No lie, it was Loeb's Hush story that pulled me to the DC universe. I know Batman and Ultimates are to complete different areas, but meh, i have faith!~

Want ot make a sig bet that the Loeb/Mad stuff outsells the Millar/Hitch stuff? I guarantee that the Loeb/Madureira Ultimates outsells the Millar/Hitch stuff. It will be the most hyped comic book in the industry this fall by both Wizard Magazine and the comic book internet sites.

The Only thing I don't like is his prelim design for Iron Man....
I like how Iron Man seems like a guy in a high Tech suit that I could picture in the real world. But Joe Mad is making him look like a monster or something.

well it was fun while it lasted, at least ill have the last two years to look back on, and save the $ i would have spent on ultimates for grant morrison's wildcats. i hate the new designs and i really really really cant stand jeff loeb.
if i want 616 avengers ill read 616 avengers, loeb is a hack and i cant stand mad's art...
but hey thats just me, feel free to bash at my opinions ;)

Mad's art was never realistic :P i mean, grunts with HUGE broad bodies and tiny heads are his thing :p
and actually, the scarlet witch sketch looks sexeh:

Why take them back to their classic looks? What is he thinking? Is he thinking?
This pisses me off. What's next? An Asterix helmet on Thor?

As a woman who reads comics, I think male comic book writers and artists should have to actually wear and work in those outfits they dream up for females characters for at least a month before they're allowed to draw them on the characters. I'm guessing we'd suddenly see a lot more intelligent clothing designs and reasonable shoes. ;)
I'm still willing to give this new creative team a try for a few issues, though, just to see how the story and final art designs turn out.

I can't find anything.I'm hoping someone can find a better link than this, but if you click here (http://www.joemadfan.com/gallery/p17_sectionid/19) and scroll partway down, you can see several sketches for Ultimates, including Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Captain America and Iron Man.

Dude...what are you talking about. Those sketches are nothing like the characters' classic looks.

The heads are too street fighterish.....
Meh, I loved the way the current Ultimates characters are depicted, their costumes look more realistic bound and all.

Actually, they look like the costumes from the Crossing... which JoeMad designed.

JoeMad mentioned he's taking the look back to the more traditional look which is stupid in my opinion because all they're doing is making it similar to an actual Avengers book, not an Ultimates book. For frigs sakes JoeMad,didn't mama ever tell you not to fix what's not broken?

While I do agree that Scarlet Witch doesn't need to move back toward her 616 costume I actually really like these designs. Especially the Iron Man, even though he seems to be suffering form Samus Aran syndrome (his shoulders are way wider in suit than they could ever really be out of suit.)
Also is it just me or does Thor seem to look like a pirate?
Given the Scarlet Witch's current contume and the outfits shown for Black Widow and Wasp I bet she probably won't get that outfit, but who knows.

I believe it’s a trick to draw in readers by using skimpy briefs, long legs high heels & enhanced breasts to de-tract from crappy and un-imaginative writing. If I see that sort of stuff creeping into U3 I’m off. Keep it to the main 616 or DC lines where the newly pubescent or incurably single can get of on it.
