Yummy yummy yummy
That's really nice. The only thing that doesn't work for me is the position of the left hand. Obviously it's open like that to show off the claw mark, but I think I would've prefered to see it held up, like a cop telling you to stop.

Agh, Tad ruined it! :D Now everytime I look at it I immediately look at the left hand and agree with him! But it definately looks bad ass.

I was never really thrilled about the HB busts... To think of It-I never liked busts that much ( I love the Ivar's take on HB though). What's the fun with toys that you can't play with? (and I'm nearly 20... damn. ;) ). Anyways- a preaty nice bust.

That's really sweet!
Way better than their HB, and I came around to liking that one as well.
I'm definitely getting this one.
I think the base looks a bit wierd though. Or rather, it's really nice, but with his feet on those two poles(?) he looks like the Green Goblin.

My first thought was about the hand as well. What is he, in a musical?

as you get older you have less time to play with them...the statues and busts are bigger and easier to appreciate while you're doing other work :o

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe we have one Mr. Mignola to thank for that hand pose?

That's the first thing that jumped to mind for me as well, Tad. That and his huge chin! :D
I think the best representation we've seen thus far of LoJo is Mezco's recent action figure. Absolutely fantastic!! Looks just like Mike Mignola's artwork jumped off the page and sprung to 3-D life.

DAMN that Mignola guy, always screwing with anatomy! Why can't he just draw like Liefeld?!? (Although, to Mr. Mignola's credit, he does have the skinny ankle thing down)
Johann, great work on your LoJo sculpt! Can you post some more shots of it at different angles?

Well, my only point was that Electric Tiki is just being true to Mignola's art. So if you want to take issue with the hand pose, realize you're arguably quibbling with MM himself...
No. Mike drew him with the hand pointed down. It's a classic Mignola pose. To show off the lobster claw they tilted it at the wrist and made it point forward and, at least from this one shot, it seems unnatural.
But it's a minor quibble about a great sculpt.

Sorry, I'm late to the game, but I love it just the way it is. No changes please. Now I just want to see if it holds up after it's been painted.
The Tiki guys do great work. I own their "Greatest American Hero" sculpt.

THIS one I want. The Hellboy left me cold but I really like how they did Lobster...except for the hand...MY GOD, THE HAND!

I like the statue and think it turned out well. The only drawback or minor point that bothers me is LJ's expression. It's either the beginnings of a Billy Idol sneer, or he looks like he just smelled something bad. Perhaps he smells the stench of evil?!

Beautiful. And I agree, much better than the HB.

I LOVE this sculpture! I HATE the large neon blue logo on the rock. It really disrupts the power of the sculpt. It takes me right out of the scene, if you know what I mean. It prevents it from being a bona fide masterpiece. I think a nice little plaque at the bottom of the base would have been enough. Anybody agree? I may have to customize this beauty and obliterate the logo. Bring on the Magi-Sculpt!

I wholeheartedly agree, Wolf. I really admire the dark gravity of this sculpt, but the jolly blue logo in the middle of it is like inappropriate laughter from an audience member during a dramatic scene in a film. And my eye keeps getting sucked towards it.
Why did they put the wordmark on there at all? It's from the "Fiction" version of Lobster Johnson of the serials and comic books. The guy standing there on the rock is the real deadly deal. And if you bought the sculpt, it was because you know who the guy is; it's not like you needed to be reminded. I guess it's to go with the whole "vintage" theme of the line, but still, I think it's unfortunate.

Great stuff! Can't wait to add it to the collection.
Now if Bowen would just do a Lobster Johnson bust to
go with Hellboy and Abe...
Hey there, Otto!
As to the logo: I like the idea of the logo because it's linked to the pulp confusion of the character. Many people think he's fictional. Unfortunately, I don't like the actual font. So I guess I'm in my own category. :p
And, as noted, the inclusion of the name does match the rest of the line, including Hellboy.

I agree with Mr Wolf and ruta.
I think the blue logo and text look terrible as part of the sculpt. I have trouble with text and titles to begin with, I think they should just get put on the bottom of the stand so that you can flip it over and read it. As a compromise I think putting it on the base would be better than incorporating it into the sculpt itself. Here is my lame attempt to illustrate what I mean.

Maybe this was obvious and already talked about, but since I'm slow on allergy medicine today, gimme a break. :o I think the idea is that his name is on there as his own gravestone. Since being killed at the bottom of a collapsed train tressle is one of his many death places and this looks like that is the insinuated area he's standing in. Maybe an alternative would be to just tone down the blue to match the "gravestone" more. Like using a dark grey or black.
But as Tad said, it does make a bow to it's pulpy origins with the blue as it looks like it is from a pulp magazine cover.
The whole thing looks good to me! Not that I would endorse a vibrant blue logo (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=80640&highlight=doktor) or anything. :p
