Maybe they should make him a cult leader like Ultimate Silver Surfer, but he instead preaches about the beauty of death and has his followers make mass suicide pacts. From there, it would be easy to see him and Ult SS get into a nasty confrontation over differing philosophies.

Pardon me for saying so, but that really sounds lame.

Pardon me for saying so, but that really sounds lame.Yeah, pretty much. But it seems to be a good fit.

It would definitely be a positive change. He's always going on about how smart he is. So if he's so smart, how come he has to rule by force? I want to see some damn smarts! Or at the very least, consistant powers.

Ultimate Thanos
Where he belongs- Ultimate Defenders maxi-series 1-12 featuring Namor, Hulk, Silver Surfer, Wolverine
Premise Aliens!
No actually Thanos should be the leader of a third world country who has been engaging in third world experiments. Upon discovering a formula to make people into Hulk like beings Thanos takes over the world on the mission to end all life on earth. Unwilling and unable to kill the Ultimates or the X-men or the Fantastic Four he simply sends them on a mission into space and leaves them there! Having nothing but weak heros unable to figure out how the hell to get home they send Wolverine back to earth as he is the only person to survive re-entry. (and he sells comics)
Wolverine is now forced to put together a team of basically a$$holes to keep the human populace while fighting Thanos. Finding the rejects of the Defenders still available its revealed that Black Knight was actually one of Xaviers spies and does in fact kick ass. Luke Cage and Valkie are both captured and experimented on to the point that they both become heros.... Nighthawk and Son of Satan die.
Hulk joins up because Thanos basically destroy's his whore house and that makes hulk angry and you wouldn't like hulk when he is angry and alone.
Namor joins up because he is bored... no seriously he joins because he is bored and he likes making fun of Wolverine and Silver Surfer.
Eventually Thanos kicks Hulk and Namors collective asses and finally they join up with the team of Black Knight, Valkrie, Silver Surfer, Hulk, Wolverine, and Namor and defeat ultra-mutant Thanos.
Some great twists
Thanos who thinks everyone should die has mutated himself to a form that he is unkillable.

It is a world far, far away. Its galaxy has yet to be identified by Earth, and the age of the society that resides upon the world is so old they carry the name Eternals. Despite their age, they are a monarchy-their leaders wise and immortal, they rule through their age, their knowledge tempered through millennia of life.
The Chitauri, the Kree, even the Empires, all look to the Eternals for guidance in matters of great import. It is said they are the first humanoid race-whether this is truth or legend cannot be said.
But today, their power and their knowledge have led to a…unfortunate…result.
He lays on the floor, eyes still open and unblinking. He is the cause, of course. His curiosity of the Corridor, and what lay inside it, lead him to creating the device, and testing it. It lead to him finding the being inside it, barely even still in existence.
It lead him to releasing it.
And now, as he lay dying, the young Prince can only stare in wonder at the light before his eyes.
“Are you Death,” he croaks.
Something along those lines. You refer to Death as the path beyond…so yes, I guess you could call me that. Considering you are dead and all.
He feels his aches end, his body lighter. And looking behind him, sees his body lying on the ground, and winces.
He had no idea the being had been so…thorough…with him. No doubt his brother will be…disturbed to find the body.
But…Death? I am not Death, sadly. I was drawn to you, because I recognize you. Or at least, see the resemblance between you here, and you where I was last, before I was released.
“I’m sorry. I don’t understand. You seem to be talking of…another me? Somewhere in the Corridor?”
Exactly. We have met before, but not the you-you, but the other-you. Allow me to introduce myself, Deimos, Prince of the Eternals.
I am called the Beyonder.
Essentially, the Eternals are a sort of proto-god race deep, deep in space-the Kree, Skrulls, other alien races see these beings as beyond them and above them, and rely on them to settle disputes.
Deimos, who will become Thanos, is one of their leaders, who while engaging in an experiment opens a doorway into another realm-releasing a dying evil. He is killed, and experimented on by a watching god-like being, eventually become something we are more familiar with.
Thanos is, if anything, a scientist-past his fixation with Death, which comes up soon, he desires knowledge. Knowledge of the cosmos, knowledge of the workings of reality. This, of course, lead to his releasing the being.
As for his arch-foe? Someone who the other Thanos has encountered-as Deimos opened a portal into the realm of Nullification.
Tyrant.
