View Full Version : So...does the Waid LSH have any other members besides Brainy and Cos?

Sometimes, I wonder.
I don't fault Waid for having favorite Legionnaires. We all do. On a team this size, the temptation to focus on just the personal favs must be extra strong.
But yeesh, if it isn't causing some of my favorite Legionnaires to come off as one-note wonders.
13 issues and the only thing we know about the new Gim is that he wishes people would get his codename right. Like, that's his only personality trait. His only desire. His only purpose in the book.
13 issues and all we know about the new Tasmia is that she's a hot blue chick in leather. "Shadow of Herself Lass", anyone?
13 issues and other than some new twists to the powers, most of the Legionnaires are blank slates.
We know Ayla likes to sleep around. Not much else.
We know Jan has alien cultural mores about clothing. Not much else.
And the only non-Brainy & Cos characters who were blessed with as vivid characterization are the new Lyle (who is a bit of a whiny loser), Garth & Imra (who haven't turned up much), and Nura (who's currently dead). And Jeckie, I guess. But she was introduced as sort of a forced "Flake-to-hero" conversion that I didn't quite buy.
My wish for year two of the new LSH? Flesh these characters out some! Enough with the exploration of the UP Dystopia and sociopolitical rants. Let's find out who the rest of these kids are.

Ideally, each Legion member will get a spotlight issue comparable to issue #2 (Dream Girl) and #3 (Triplicate Girl), especially within the next two years. Otherwise, it's tough to get to know a large cast like this within a monthly comic format, especially when there is a fair amount of action and an ongoing plotline. Most of the JSA run has been very good, but excellent characters like Mr. Terrific and Alan Scott have still gotten just minimal exposure, while a few favorites like Stargirl and Atom Smasher have gotten more than enough focus.

Just wait till Dawnstar, Blok, and Tyroc come back. And Supergirl. Things are going to get worse/more complicated before the get better.
And Triplicate Girl DID get her own issue, too.

IIRC, Waid said that Cos and the Legionnaires who've been spotlit thus far, are not his favourites. I think that in the new year, we'll get a greater focus on the others. Also, Barry was nice enough to reply to an e-mail, and he said that while Supergirl will be prominent, she won't be taking over the book.

Waid's never made a secret that Cos and Brainy are two of his favorite Legionnaires, with only maybe Mon-El being a larger fav.
I didn't say I feared Supergirl was taking over the book.

Fortunately, the next issue is the Atom Girl spotlight. The only other origin stories I'm really dying for are Element Lad, Colossal Boy and Timber Wolf.
With Sun Boy's departure, I'm also hoping that Shadow Lass or Karate Kid will be made deputy leader and given a greater role to play.

I agree with everything you said in this post Killer Frost. I'm most intrigued about Colossal Boy though, Waid has said that he comes from a land of giants. Each intro has him listed as Earth as his home planet. Others have been editorial mistakes that they have corrected. Colossal Boys still remained as Earth.
And BTW, Welcome to the boards Andromeda Daxamite, I don't believe anyone has told you that yet.

It's Micro-Lad!! lol j/k
I think it'd actually be cool if they went around calling him that.
And thanks!

Well, I think Waid wanted to keep Colossal Boy Jewish so he made him from a race of giants that live on earth in the 31st century.
However, since Bgztl is now a parallel earth and we're supposed to get some multiverse stuff soon, "Micro Lad" may be from a parallel universe earth where people are giants or something.

Well, in the current run, he's self said to be from a race of giants, who's super power is to shrink to six feet tall. That's why he keeps telling people his name is Micro Lad.
