Help with history!

Okay this has been annoying me for years now so I figured it's high time I finally join a forum and put this question to the people.
Who or what was Bastion, the purple tinged, white haired mutant hating bad guy from the old Zero Tolerance storyline that ran about 7 years ago?
I only bought the core x-books and refused to buy the tie ins like X Force and Cable in order to learn the finer points of this guys origin.
Can anyone clue me in as to who he was and what finally became of him?

The whole story is not possible to tell in a line or 3. But if I do it in 3 words it goes like this:


Bastion=Nimrod=Mastermold

That's not 100% right. Bastion was the result of Nimrod and Master Mold being merged into one entity after passing through the Siege Perilous. However, Nimrod and Master Mold were two different entities to start with.

A brilliantly set up character, who filtered in in the background for quite a long while before Zero Tollerence began.

And then utterly stuffed up by a bad 'Summer Event,' and finally his origin was explained in a Machine Man annual of all places.

Rubbish.

Such potential, and so badly told. Much like the 3 years that followed it.
