X-STATIX PRESENTS: DEAD GIRL #4 (of 5)
Written by PETER MILLIGAN
Penciled by NICK DRAGOTTA
Cover by MICHAEL ALLRED
There are some stories that change everything. Such stories usually involve a titanic, cosmic battle that threatens to destroy the universe and often claim the lives of popular characters at conveniently-timed dramatic junctures (say, for instance, at the end of issue 3) or return a previously deceased character from the great beyond... usually the last page of issue 4. But the one thing that is never quite explained is why these characters must die only so that they can (if they’re popular enough) return with great fanfare to the hum of exuberant fanboys everywhere.
Truth be told, only Doctor Strange holds the answer to The Great Mystery, and now, a constantly thwarted, dead super-villain called The Pitiful One wants to know it too so that he and his gang of lackey no-goodnicks can return from the dead as well, fame be damned! As the Pitiful One closes in on Doctor Strange’s physical form, his deceased minions (Mysterio! Kraven! Miss America! Tike Alicar!) face off against a team of dead heroes including Dead Girl, Ant Man, The Phantom Rider, Mr. Sensitive, and... (begin exuberant humming, fanboys) U-Go Girl!

I don't think so. Most X-Fans think that Milligan's run on "X-Men" "sucks", and if they read anything else he's written in the past, they would just dismiss it as "weird", so it's not likely to change their opinion one way or the other.

we never stopped liking Milligan!
and ironically I had asked both Milligan and Allred about bringing Edie back, witout knowing they had already planned it:
http://www.insidepulse.com/articles/45111
Manolis: The most important event during your run was of course Edie’s death which served as a turning point for the series. Mike Allred has revealed before that you didn’t know which of the Big Three was going to die until the last minute. Have you ever regretted killing Edie, and how do you think the book would have been affected if Tike or Guy had died instead? With the return of What If recently, I would really like to see the idea explored in a one-shot.
Pete: I don’t know about What If. But Mike is right…quot;until I killed I didn’t know it was going to happen. I actually thought it was going to be Tike. Then all the story gods conspired to make it clear that Edie had to go. I was really sad though, and I know Axel and Mike were. Did the book suffer? I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe I was stupid to do it. Maybe I deserve the gas chamber. A similar thing happened to me a few years ago in Shade The Changing Man when I killed KATHY. In that instance, I really do think the book suffered and was never as good. That though was because Kathy’s death seemed to be so clearly the natural ending of the book, and we perhaps should have stopped it then. With X-Statix it was a team book, the team carried on, and Edie’s death, though traumatic for them, didn’t stop their reason for being there. Which was of course to be famous, make money, and have some fun.
Manolis: Comics have always been accused of featuring a so-called “revolving door of death”. Even holy goats like Bucky, the Jason Todd Robin and even Thunderbird seem to be clawing their way out of the grave recently. Do you agree with the resurrection and revamping of these old characters? Does it take away from the significance of the original stories? For example, would bringing back Edie now take away from the magic of X-Force 128?
Pete: The very subject is at the heart of a Dead A Long Time. Some of my own feelings of the matter can probably be detected by close reading of the mini-series.

I had my joygasm over on the April Solicitations post. (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=103517&page=3) Edie was the best thing to happen to Marvel Comics in the last 10 years. If she's dies again in issue #5 there'll be heck to pay, that's right, heck! :evilangry

Nice cover. I love how Guy's antennae are wrapping around strands of Edie's hair. Still, this makes me wonder about whether we'll see Venus de Milo again, or if the old love triangle will be addressed.

Why?
Because the entire miniseries is a satire about why popular comic book characters contsantly come back from the dead...?

Just hoping any of the "ressurections" stick.

Nah, plenty of people allready like Milligan.
I'm pretty sure of that because y'know, he is writing a core X-title, was allowed to change X-force to X-statix, has some of the best renowned comic runs ever.
The fact that he managed to get comic characters with no history a #26 issue series, and now a follow up mini is also a great sign!
