Book opens with Sally and her baby at the beach having a good time. Sally takes her off the baby for a second and the baby is being pulled into the ocean by riptide i guess. Seconds later we find out its a dream and she is awaken by the ring of her phone. Its the serial killer who wants to know why Sally hasnt told his story. She says she will and tries to get some info from him but he hangs up on her.

At work Sally and her editor/boss have the usual back and forth banter they've had the last several issues. He asks if she has gotten any info from the Xavier estate and says she has a friend working on it. He then tells her he has her an assignment.

The angle the editor found for her mutant diaries is a support group for mutants who lost their powers. One mutant tells about how he thought he was normal and could take the perfect pictures until M-day happened. Their is also a chick their that claims she was a mutant but we learn she is like Ed Norton's character from Fight Club in that she likes to go to support groups for attention I guess.

Walking home Sally runs into the Blob in an alley of all places. What comics would do without alleys i dont know. Anyway he tells her check out the asylum.

Sally goes to her AA meeting and afterwards goes home. Upon arriving at home she fidns her baby's daddy in her apartment. They argue about him leaving her and they baby while their child died. He claims she pushed him away but Sally isn't hearing any of it and tells him to vamoose. Truth later comes out from Sally that she did push him out because she knew he was slowly leaving her anyway.

She visits Ravencroft Asylum at the behest of the Blob. What she learns there is that a power struggle has taken place. Those that were mutants were on top of the food chain but once they lost their powers they were put on the bottom. A mutant who is made up of crystals is show in this sequence not sure if he is a pre existing character but looks like a member of the Maruaders.

Books ends with Sally driving her VW Beetle home and having the dead body of another mutant thrown through her windshield. The mutant had owned the phone that the mutant serial killer used to call Sally from at the beginning of the story.

Another great issue by Jenkins which is leaps and bounds above some of his other work. Sally has to be the most angst filled female lead since Jessica Jones. She is a tortured character with many flaws but I cant help but root for her and feel sympathetic. The dead child and alcohol dependancy may be cliche but it worked on me. Jenkins like Hine on District X is coming up with a lot of creative ways to look at the phenomena of being a mutant and losing powers. Oh and im guessing the serial killer is the Sykes guy who is running for office.

I enjoyed this issue alot. The Serial Killer, "The Ghoul" is a good antagonist. I was originally thinking that he was Sabretooth, but you might be right on him being the politician.

Have we ever seen Nelson Cragg? The inmate that Robbie The Crystal guy (gotta be Prism from the Marauders) smacks down in Ravencroft?

Yeah, it's gotta be Prism. He was one of the saves in the 198 Files after all. :)

I was thinking Sally's editor might be the Ghoul.

I dunno. We saw what the lower half of 'The Ghoul's' face looked like, and it certainly wasn't him. Hell, it looked like Sabretooth, but I just don't see him doing something even this twisted. :)

Aw, I thought he had a full-beard but it is just stubble.

Could it be Ken?

Hmm, maybe. But that would be a bit cheesy. What's his motivation? I guess a case could be made that she spent so much time with the 'Mutant Cause' for the paper, that he felt neglected which is why he left. Now that she's back doing the 'Mutant Thing' again, he may have snapped. But really, that comes off way too cheesy, and I doubt that she was involved with such a nut bunny. :)

I'm not really that interested in the mystery of the mutant killer in this book. Nor am I really interested in Sally as a character.

But all the little side stories she's covering about the various mutants that lost their powers (the Blob, the support groups, and the inmates) are very good. Great little touches that the regular x-books seem to have just passed by the wayside. So for that I'm grateful for this book. It gives some perspective to the events of M-day (I really hate that term - they could have come up with something cooler).

Now, while I am enjoying this book. The Asylum thing was good. It seems the original Prism is in there (Sinister clones the rest). The mutant killer angle is good as well. And it is still good to see the whole depowered thing unfold.

But I don't at all get why the history of this reporter matters. No offense to the idea. But to me it seems out of place. And I think it is not needed.

I think their using this mini to get people to enjoy the character... so Jenkins can use her when he takes over The Pulse.

Aha, gotcha. So it has little sense for those of use who won't be getting Pulse.

Shame. I hope they get on with the depowered plot for now.

Haven't we seen Prism die like several times? It seems to me every time the Marauders popped up back in the 80s he got smashed to bits by someone.

The Marauders are all perpetually cloneable by Mr. Sinister, except for Sabretooth now. This is likely the one and only real Prism, not one of the numerous Cloned dead ones. ;)

it's a marvel comic. it is about jessica jones and her life as a reporter/former superhero. it replaced alias, which told much of the same stories. both were written by bendis as well.

It's out bi-monthly (Every other month) so that might be why you're missing it... seeing as its only out 6 times a year. Although I think Jenkins is making it a monthly.

You mean the Prism that Jean Grey shattered with her TK during the Mutant Massacre?

Nope, supposedly that Prism would be a clone as well. If I recall correctly all of the Marauders during the Mutant Massacre were already clones, and not the real ones. In fact a later issue commented that Prism was actually originally a Morlock himself.

This was one of the books that I was hesitant to pick up and was very happy I did. Jenkins has really impressed me and I really dig this book, kinda reminds me of Bendis' Alias. Similar tone and feel, I think the art contributes to that as well.

Good issue.

I bet the Killer is a Mutant or former Mutant. Gen M has been a fun read.

I may have to pick this up after all. I thumbed through the first issue and wasn't too impressed. I am interested in the idea of a serial killer who's after former mutants.

That could also explain why Vertigo is in Savage Land. She probably never left and the Murrauder Vertigo were clones. The Savage-Vertigo and this Prism perhaps never heard about the Marauders at all....! It was never mentioned that the 1st team Marauders were the originals. So you are right they could have been clones from the first time the teamed-up.

Makes you wonder where the original Arclight, Riptide, Harpoon, Scrambler etc are right now. Weren't some of them mentioned still powered? At least Arclight was in the 198 files. Could be the original one who prob. also knows nothing about Sinister and the Marauders or the Marauder version.

Hmmmm, interesting thoughts. I thougt the original Verigo is the one in Savage Land and Sinister somehow got some DNA from her to clone her. If this is the original Prism, he probably did this with all Marauders. Exepct Sabretooth of corse.
