Hey gang.

Remember way back when I was writing a comic book based on an upcoming line of RPGs? And then the comic line was dropped? And then I wrote some profiles? And got paid?

Well, the RPG's going to be released at last next month. I'm trying to find places to send the press releases to.

I'm invested in the concept because:

1) I get royalty payments.
2) I really like the concepts.
3) If it takes off, we're going to pull the comic line out of mothballs and I get to be EIC.
4) I'm getting a "bounty" for each site that runs our release.

Any and all suggestions would be helpful.

I don't really follow that kind of thing myself, so I'm useless regarding the website stuff, but I do know that Krause publishes Comics And Games Retailer (http://www.collect.com/interest/periodical.asp?Pub=CR&cookie%5Ftest=1), a magazine directed at--shockingly enough--comics and gaming-related stores/store owners.

I think you might be screwed at the moment for the comic websites. "If the game sells, there might be a comic book" doesn't have a ton of cache to it, news-wise. That said, some of the lower tier news sites might just run it, because they'll run anything.

If you really want to get the thing published though, I'd suggest making some phone calls along with the press releases. Follow up. Offer interviews. Don't just let the game sell itself, sell the game.

But I'm not really involved in the RPG scene at all, so I can't tell you where to go without doing research you could probably do on your own.

Well, that wasn't the exact marketing tact I planned to take.

I'm a little rusty, but yeah, I planned on that.

Periphery didn't sell 700 copies by me sitting on my tuchas you know.

(actually, it did. Thank you e-mails!)

Yeah. Thanks for the thought though!

I did post on your other thread in games, but since I see it here. Don't mention the comic line on the gaming site. If it's got comic art in it, very cool, and say that, but a lot of people feel burned by GOO going out of business. I mentioned the sites I went to... though. What era is it? What makes it different from the (very) good M&M stuff already out there? What Age is it? What Age can it be?

Most of all, how open is the setting?

(Yes, a lot of questions, but.. heh, it's what gamers ask)

I was already planning on eschewing all mention of the comic line. Here's hoping the owners agree with me.

I believe in baby steps.

What's a "GOO?

I believe the first sourcebook is for the "Modern Age" but that we will be releasing information on about a hundred year range if not longer. The actual timeline goes back to the founding of the Colonies.

Open in what sense?

Ah, sorry, didn't know you were a newbie. GOO is Guardians of Order, who did Tri-Stat, BESM, and are currently doing the GAME of Thrones RPG. They nearly went under this year, and a lot of their product lines got dumped, including their superhero. M&M did a few crossovers with them.

*coughs* On Age, however, I meant the standerd "Gold, Silver, Bronze, Iron, Steel" that we use for comics. Superhero RPGs use that too, though knowing it's modern age can help.

Open as in... if I were playing, say, A marvel superheros game, could I use your characters with a little tweaking? What about DC? Or even a generic setting? Or is it tied to "your" setting so tightly it would be a big pain to move it around?

You could always contact someone at RPG.net (http://www.rpg.net/); they'll probably put it in their press & news (http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/press.phtml) section. ICv2 (http://www.icv2.com/index.html) has a section for game-related news, and Gaming Report (http://www.gamingreport.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=NPNews&file=index) would also be a logical place to hawk your wares.
