I won! I won! That hasn't happened since like, April of last year!
Okay, new theme...
The Other Woman (or Man)
For those of us who are or have been in a comitted relationship, we know that no matter how much you love the one you're with, there's always that one person/thing that competes for attention.
Your avatar doesn't have to be *your* other woman, obviously. Any example of such is good.

Finally, I can enter this contest without changing my avatar! Ladies and gentlement, I present to you Joe Rice, once upon a time Jaime's "other man."

Suzannah would be the first person to tell you that my "other woman" is Apple Computers. I spend a lot of time on all my tech, but I go a bit overboard on the Mac thing.
How overboard?
When I sucessfully installed OS X (10.0) on a Grape iMac for the first time, I was so excited that I woke her up.
At 2 AM.

Ouch.
I actually asked a few people on IM yesterday and they liked the idea.
Tell you what, if four more posters complain, I'll ditch it and go to my backup.
Don't wanna do a sucky contest.

I was living with, and engaged to, someone when first person shooters got really fancy in the mid-90s. He was a night person to boot and would stay up all night every night on those things. Periodically I would get tired of this and go upstairs and suggest he come down to bed. Always declined. Finally I decided to believe the articles that said men can be dense about such things and put it straight one night -- "Are you saying you'd rather keep playing that game than have sex?" Without even looking up from the screen, "Yes."

Can someone translate this in to English?
Blizzard Sorc:
of the Character Class Sorceress, specializing in long range magical type attacks. This particular sorceress has invested most of her "skill points" into the spell Blizzard, and its Synergy skills (adding damage to the Blizzard skill with additional skill points spent into "synergy skills" such as Ice Blast or Glacial Spike) to optimize damage at the cost of versatility. Most specifically designed to "farm" (kill and re-kill, for items) "Act Bosses" (the "Bosses" of the game) such as Andariel, Duriel, Mephisto (most commonly), Diablo, and Baal.
Diablo II is an action rpg released by Blizzard Entertainment in june of 2000, and LoD is its Expansion pack, Lord of Destruction. It is enjoyed the world over as a single player game, and even moreso as a massively multiplayer online game via the Battle.Net servers.
USEast refers to a Battle.Net "Gateway" or "Realm" wherein multiplayer gaming can be organized. Characters that are played on a "Realm" are not stored locally, on the user HD, but on the massive Battle.Net servers (so the files cannot be easily accessed by malicious users/cheaters).
Each Battle.Net realm (USEast, USWest, Europe, Asia) are home to approximately 20-50,000 Diablo II and LoD players logged on at any given time, not counting Accounts created for Starcraft or Broodwar.
Hardcore refers to a nonstandard game setting wherein if the Player Character is killed for any reason, it cannot be played again.
Ladder refers to a section of the server dedicated to competitive "Ladder" play, ranking characters based upon the Character Level (1-99). The overall Ladder contains 1,000 spots to recognize the highest leveled overall players, with a Sub-Ladder for each individual Character Class (Amazon, Barbarian, Assassin, Druid, Paladin, Necromancer, Sorceress).
I'm ub3r l33t at this game.
oh and TPPK is an acronysm that stands for
Town Portal Player Killer, where via a client-side 3rd party program (usually) or (rarely) pure timing skill, a player can cast a Town Portal and quickly Hostile and Kill thier supposed "teammates" (note that Town Portals normally disappear once Hostility has been engaged by a player.). This tactic, while it is viewed as dishonorable, is commonplace on the Hardcore Servers, especially at High Levels (70-90+).
Townkilling is also possible, but requires multiple and specific persons/items/town map to accomplish and is therefore much less common.

He plays an online game called Diablo II, with its expansion set, Lord of Destruction. It's a semi role-playing kind of game, built out of a dungeons and dragons kind of fantasy milieu. He plays a sorceress that specializes in cold spells, and using a spell called blizzard it's the second easiest wway to inflict the most damage quickest. He plays "hardcore" which means if he dies, he starts from scratch with no save. He play "ladder" which means he like seeing how well he stacks up in standings with the other players. Most folk who do this like seeing their name in near the top of the lists.
I'm ub3r l33t at this game.

I quit playing DII:LOD after I took my second character through Hell level Baal in hardcore (the top boss, in the hardest level). This coincided with the release of City of Heroes.

That's a Definite Possibility.
Hopefully, Puppy sticks around for a long time though.

GAUNTLET!!
"Warrior is about to die!"
I've got the original game downloaded onto my X360 Hard Drive. One of three video games I played back in Russia (we also had Mappy and Burger Time.) Boy, that takes me back. Talk about a coin popper. When I was a kid, we could never afford to get past level 2.
Funny thing is, they've come out with versions of Gauntlet since then, and they're basically dumbed down, action heavy versions of Diablo.
I believe that is the same avatar I used when I won the "Noir" avatar contest.[shameless plug]The proof is on the Hall of Fame site (see link at the bottom of my sig)[/shameless plug]

I thought about making a Jerome Bettis fumble joke here, but nothing was sounding good enough and it's not like they lost the game anyway...

We used to play the hell out of Gauntlet. That was also one of the first games (in our town at least) where you could add quarters to keep going. The change machine was at the other end of the hall so that made for some interesting races.
My brother was a very hardcore Diablo II player for many years. I think he was even a moderator on the boards. Finally switched to WOW though.

On of the first games where you could do that period, IIRC.

He did always play in God mode. Which just seemed wrong to me. Should that have been a sign?
I just remembered a game that caused all kinds of relationship problems with people I knew. Due to excessive play. Someone could still call it. Yep, pretty much Doomed from the start......... ok someone had to say it.

This 1987 cautionary tale just shows that if you play, you might have to pay. And as hard as it is on a marriage, it seems to be even harder on the household pets. ;)
Glenn Close goes from sexy (well, for her, anyway) to sinister in "Fatal Attraction"!
Hmm..I may tweak the timing on that when I get home to better software...

I really couldn't fault the Bus for that Fumble. What can you do when the guy puts his hat on the ball like that?
At the rate that Bettis is going with fumbles, he got the last one of his career out of the way in good time.

Have you thought about getting her a #7 jersey to wear to bed? I'm guessing it could have the same effect as a Victoria's Secret teddy has on other men, and it would give an all-new meaning to: sacking the QB, the quarterback must go down and must go down hard, the hail Mary, but hopefully not the incomplete pass or false start. :)
