Normally video game movies stink, but I'm curious to see for myself.
What are the best video game movies of all time
and while your at it, make a list of bad videogame movies and tell us why? :D

Resident Evil 1 was awesome and scary.
Mortal Kombat was sweet, and still stands up as a martial arts fantasy.
Street Fighter was good cheesy fun.
House of the Dead was an abomination against creation.
Mortal Kombat 2 was nonsensical with bad action.
Tomb Raider 1 & 2 didn't make a lot of sense, and she punches a shark.
Mario Brother a) didn't seem much like the game b) was fairly ridiculous

Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil were decent films.
Street Fighter II The Movie (animated) is probably my favorite. Definitely get the Japanese import version since it's uncut. The opening Ryu/Sagat fight and final fight between Vega(Japanese)/Ryo/Ken was awesome. Plus, the M. Bison (Japanese)/Chun Li shower fight rocked. Plot was decent.

There really haven't been many video game-based movies, when you get down to it. The only one that I saw that I can think of that didn't suck was Mortal Kombat. Which I thought was amazing at the time, but it hasn't aged well.
Truth of the matter is, most video games, even if adapted by the finest talent, just aren't going to make great movies. Either the stories are too dense to be reworked into a movie, or they barely have any stories at all, and at best a movie is adapting from a visual.
Like, could you ever do a Metal Gear Solid movie better than the original game? No. You can't. The only way I could ever possibly see an adaption of that working is to adapt the Metal Gear storyline that leads up to MGS. And even that I'd be extremely wary about.
On the flipside, the Rock is supposed to be starring in Spy Hunter. Now, what the hell actually happened in Spy Hunter that you could make a movie out of? You shoot other cars. That's it. ANyone?

Good Movies
Doom, it was definantly way better than what I expected.
Resident Evil 1 and Mortal Kombat 1 are good films to see as well.
Bad Movies
Double Dragon: Terrible, nothing like the game, and little good fight scenes for a martial arts based story.
Mario Brothers: It debuted around the same time as DD, it had neat devices for Mario and Luigi but could have used computer animation for Bowser and other characters.

The only example that springs to mind is the Street Fighter 2 anime movie.
Otherwise... Um... I liked that Tomb Raider had Chris Barrie in it.

Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Mortal Kombat were all good. It seems like Silent Hill is going to set the bar though. It looks SO good.

The Resident Evil movies were pretty good, and I liked the 2nd Tomb Raider. I wouldn't necessarily say that Doom was good, but I still enjoyed it.

Plus, the M. Bison (Japanese)/Chun Li shower fight rocked.
M. Bison was the boxer in the Japanese, Balrog was the claw and mask guy.

Ah yes, my bad. I always get mixed up between Vega, Balrog, and M. Bison.
But it was awesome to see Balrog/Vega lick the blood off his claws, then have Chun Li kick his major ass!
