X-STATIX PRESENTS: DEAD GIRL #4 (of 5)
Written by PETER MILLIGAN
Penciled by NICK DRAGOTTA
Cover by MICHAEL ALLRED
There are some stories that change everything. Such stories usually involve a titanic, cosmic battle that threatens to destroy the universe and often claim the lives of popular characters at conveniently-timed dramatic junctures (say, for instance, at the end of issue 3) or return a previously deceased character from the great beyond... usually the last page of issue 4. But the one thing that is never quite explained is why these characters must die only so that they can (if they’re popular enough) return with great fanfare to the hum of exuberant fanboys everywhere.
Truth be told, only Doctor Strange holds the answer to The Great Mystery, and now, a constantly thwarted, dead super-villain called The Pitiful One wants to know it too so that he and his gang of lackey no-goodnicks can return from the dead as well, fame be damned! As the Pitiful One closes in on Doctor Strange’s physical form, his deceased minions (Mysterio! Kraven! Miss America! Tike Alicar!) face off against a team of dead heroes including Dead Girl, Ant Man, The Phantom Rider, Mr. Sensitive, and... (begin exuberant humming, fanboys) U-Go Girl!
32 PGS./Parental Advisory ...$2.99

What really happened on Krakoa all those long years ago? And why has Xavier been keeping it to himself for so long? All this, and the all-out battle between the X-Men and their newest, deadliest foe, and a conclusion that will set-up events that rock the X-universe for years to come—starting when Ed Brubaker jumps to UNCANNY X-MEN this July!
40 PGS./Rated T+ SUGGESTED FOR TEENS AND UP ...$3.50

Sure, except he's taking over one of the GOOD X-books. Why, oh why is he not being given X-Men?

Still holding out hope that there's something about this whole thing we don't know about yet -- Claremont specifically asked to reduce his workload to just New Excalibur and the unspecified mini, for instance -- but I'm not happy about the situation.

Sure, but it's like Joe Paterno at Penn State. Is he getting on in years? Sure. Is Penn State's football team quite as impressive as it was during his prime? Probably not. But has he more than earned the right to stay as long as he wants? Absolutely. People were calling for Joe Pa's retirement for years, then this season he turned things around and had a great season. Should he retire at the end of it, go out on a high note? Sure, if that's what he wants. But if he wants to stick around, shut up and let him... he's earned it.

And there it is.
At this point, I honestly wonder if they're shifting Claremont over to X-Men and removing Milligan. His recent interview did not actually imply that he had anything going on after Blood of Apocalypse wraps up.
Course, they could be replacing him with someone else entirely.

Oh well, guess at least Claremont gets to finish the Jamie Braddock storyline up to 475. That makes me happy.

NEW EXCALIBUR #6: Sounds like we'll get an appearance by Black Tom. That would rock.

X-MEN #185: From the wording here, it really does sound like one or two members of this team will cross over to Apocalypse. I'm guessing Lorna and/or Alex, but it would be interesting if it turned out to be Bobby. He does appear to be in a vulnerable state as far as his powers and emotions.

I'm looking forward to several of these: NEW EXCALIBUR, X-MEN, ASTONISHING, NEW X-MEN, SON OF M, UNLIMITED, UNCANNY, X-FACTOR, 198

I am not looking foward to SENTINEL SQUAD O*N*E or DEADLY GENESIS, and as for Brubaker taking over for Claremont...meh. I prefer Claremont.

And Wolverine gets a guest writer, wonder who's going to be the new regular?

Love how Bachalo draws Psylocke.

The Astonishing one is a tiring cover to see, it's another one of those "Wolverine kisses another random chick!" cover.

http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/Apr06/ASTXM014_COV_CMYK.jpg

I'm also curious as to why the X-Men: Blood of Apocalypse cover isn't there as well as New Avengers since those are among the top two images I wanted to see but I guess it reveals too much or they'll be shown at a later date. Son of M looks pretty interesting, it sort of spoils his new power.

As per Wolverine/Storm, Lee always maintained that they'd been friends with benefits behind the scenes for years. I could buy it... they really would be good together, in an extremely odd sort of way, but they could just as easily decide they'd work much better as a "couple" rather than a couple.

Definitely not... hmm, very interesting. The Essential program has gotten a lot more comprehensive in recent years, I wonder if they'll be going back and adding in other various minis and one-shots and guest appearances to old Essential volumes. X-Men vs. the Micronauts, for instance, or the Marvel Team-Up issue where the team joined Spidey in fighting the Lords of Light and Darkness.

Hmm... good point, forgot about that. Still, if they're adding GL,MK into the mix, there are other things over the years they could do the same with. Plus it's now standard practice to put the annuals mixed in with the actual issues, in chronological order, rather than just crammed in the back of the Essential like before... wonder if they'll change Essential X-Men #3 to reflect that.

So with April's #6, the Masterworks got the Silver Age all covered, so that you could read this back to back with Uncanny X-Men Masterworks vol. 1.

I think these stories would look exactly as good in B&W, though, and I wonder if there's a possibility of the Essentials also covering the series through #66.

Looking at the cover and solicits for AX-M #14, I wonder if Whedon is going to be writing his own version of the Dark Phoenix Saga but this time with Emma. Why do we need another repeat of the same story? We just had a repeat of the Dark Phoenix Saga in Phoenix Endsong.

I think these stories would look exactly as good in B&W, though, and I wonder if there's a possibility of the Essentials also covering the series through #66.

Essential Uncanny X-Men #2 will be released this spring/summer; if it sells well, I'm sure they'll eventually finish off the Silver Age with volume 3.

And I agree with you about the B&W. There are some books that you might want only in color (well, not me, but most people), but the SA X-Men isn't really worth it. At least not until they reach the Neal Adams years.

Where can I go to request a tpb? For example, I would like it if Marvel reprints Longshot 1-6 in a tpb. Where can I go to ask them to do that? I think I might be able to convince them to do it, too.

Anytime. Get them to put Amazing Adventures #11-#17 and Incredible Hulk #161 in a TPB sometime and we'll call it even. Or at least support the 'Marvel Milestone' for this month with Amazing Adventures #11. :D

Btw, the April solits have a Marvel Milestone that reprints Amazing Adventures 11, as well as Uncanny X-Men 153. :)

Now, I'd think the best home for Hulk 161 would be an Essential Hulk, and the Amazing Adventures could help round off the last Essential Uncanny X-Men, no?

Actually it's necessary because Incredible Hulk #161 picks up from the end of Amazing Adventures #11-#17, because instead of continuing the story Amazing Adventures #18 became 'Killraven' instead. And we already have Essential Killraven covering those stories. :)
