Hopefully, this question hasn't been asked already, but why didn't Jor-El send Kal to the planet Daxam? Wouldn't a concerned parent send their offspring to a place that is compatible with the current living conditions? Jor-El did the research to find a suitable planet. So, in all his searching, why didn't he deem Daxam suitable. It seems to me like he was trying to give his kid an advantage. I guess now it would be kids since Supergirl was supposed to be caring for Kal when they both got there.

You answered your own question. He felt that it was better to give his kid an advantage than to have them fit in.
Heck, what parent doesn't try to force their kids to make short-term decisions that might make them be rejected by their peers as long as it provides a long-term advantage?

The question is, did Jor-El even know about Daxam?
From what I read in Man of Steel and Birthright, Krypton didn't really know that much about the outside universe, having become extremely xenophobic. Also, depending on how it's interpreted, the launch of baby Kal-El's ship may have either been a blind launch or not very well planned out.

Rather than go for the DC No-Prize, I'll give the obligatory snarky reply:
It wouldn't have made for a good story.

Like, "this close to wearing white hoods" xenophobic. They would not have taken kindly to a little alien boy being rocketed into their midst.
And I don't think Jor-El knew that Kryptonians would get superpowers on Earth.

Jor-El and Lara did, in fact, know about Daxam. For several weeks before the destruction of Krypton, Mon-El crash-landed and was given food and shelter by Jor-El and Lara. It was for this reason that when Mon-El first showed up, Superboy believed they might have been related.
The explanation for why Superman was sent to Earth and not an advanced planet like Daxam (or possibly New Genesis - though it didn't "exist" until the 1970s) was that Jor-El believed in Earthlings and thought we had a capacity for good. Further, Superman's powers would give him an advantage, allowing him to survive.
Also, depending on how it's interpreted, the launch of baby Kal-El's ship may have either been a blind launch or not very well planned out.
Silver/Bronze Age, Jor-El had plenty of time to test the launch so that it would be perfect; for instance, sending out test flights manned by Krypto and Beppo, for example. Additionally, Jor-El was able to launch a Super-Teacher robot from Krypton to instruct Kal-El in responsible use of his powers. Further, in LAST SON OF KRYPTON, he had time to ask Albert Einstein to raise Kal-El for him, though Einstein declined.
