Keeps getting postponed. Supposedly, they were finally getting ready to start filming but Hurricane Katrina screwed up production and now they are scouting locations all over again. Now slated for filming sometime in 2006 to be released in 2007.
I wouldn't hold my breath until we hear news that they actually start filming.

Basically. Though I think they have more incentive now that the seventh Mortal Kombat game is getting released later this year.
The guy that played Scorpian in the first movie, and slated to play him in part three, had this (http://mk3movie.mortalkombatonline.com/) to say about it.
Also keep in mind, the reason it took so long is that Threshold was waiting for the rights to the movie franchise to lapse. When that finally happened, they bought it up and tried to begin filming, then Katrina happened.

He must've realized just how bad the first one was and decided to make crappy movies about other subjects

Good question. I remember hearing Dolph Lundren was supposed to take over for Raul Julia as Bison. I guess it fell through, or whatever studio he approached wasn't interested. *shrugs*

I remember seeing some publicity shots taken for it in some of the martial arts magazines.

I have a feeling this movie will suck as much as the first two.

The first one wasn't so bad (it was actually one of the best videogame movies), but the 2nd one seriously sucked.
Honestly, do a reset, follow the storyline and do it as a trilogy.
1. Make sure you keep the same characters for all three series.
2. Follow the storyline. It's a good tale that can easily be movie material.
3. Give it an R rating. People should be nausiated from the material. If not, push it as far as you can with a pg-13 rating. Kill off characters, but only after they have served their purpose
4. Must do fights Scorpian/Sub Zero (show the death of the first sub zero in the first movie tease in the 2nd and save the big fight for the final movie). Kabal/Kano (to show how tough kano is), Kitrana/Milenna (to show the break away from the outlands court).
5. Don't build cgi for the sake of showing off cgi. They should be based on the neat characters that are created such as Goro/
6. Give the outlands a chinese hell sort of feel that is just blows away the audience.
7. Liu kang is the main character, and base the storyline around him.
8. No frieking giant wheels to transport between areas. Just use portals to quickly get back to the story if necessary.
That should cover the basics. :)

I thought Christopher Lambert, Robin Shou, and Linden Ashby (Original Raiden, Lou Kang, and Original Johnny Cage) were all signed. I got the impression they're ignoring part 2 outright, which is fine with me. With Matthias Hues supposedly signed as Fujin, they could be following the storyline for the Mortal Kombat 4 game.

In that case, I hope it goes through.
Just do what they do with highlander 2.
It never existed :p

I agree. Well not that the first movie was good but that they should follow the original storyline of the games. That's the number one mistake video game movies make, they deviate from the original storyline all too easily.
And Kabal rocks!

If this were to happen, I'm there.
Johnny Cage is my favorite.

Considering that the first one was really a low budget film, it was pretty good. In the second one they went totally overboard, concentrating on overblown special effects, throwing in too many characters and ignoring things like having a plot and character development.
I've been waiting to see who they cast as Sonya. The first Sonya was a better actress but couldn't fight her way out of a paper bag. The second Sonya was a much better at the action scenes, but she didn't really act like Sonya to me.

I thought Bridgette Wilson (the first Sonya) did a credible job in fighting. They even got Sonja's scissors kick right!
IIRC Wilson married Andre Aggassi!

I just hope Musetta Vander returns as Sindel. She's the one woman that could turn me straight, my GOD she's gorgeous.
