Well, not sure, but the story kind of isn't over.... basically, it ended, some novels have been published throughout the years, and the creators recently did Fist of the Blue Sky, which is still ongoing. Not sure what happens at the end of it's Shonen Jump serialization. The new OVA's and upcoming Movies are an adaption and continuation of what happened in the novels.

For an ending of sorts, track down the animated movie Streamline did! It kicks butt :)
