"Benevolent and competent" being the key words. I, too, wouldn't want the guy from Wishmaster (or similar films) doling out wishes with murderously ironic "twists."

Lawnmower Man was kind of a crap movie, but Job did end up with super-intelligence, telepathy, telekineses, and the ability to jump into cyberspace and control machines/computers. Yeah, I'd take that.

I'm not a big fan of the Harry Potter characters or universe, but it's core wish-fulfillment concept of "your real parents were both powerful sorcerers and it's your destiny to train to be just as powerful a sorcerer as they were and to go have supercool adventures in fascinating exotic lands populated with magical creatures and whatnot" is pretty appealing.

And I'd take Michael Douglas' place in the "sexually harassed by Demi Moore" scene in Disclosure, too.
