settle a dispute for me. i've always remebered that autobots(atleast in generation one) never flew. the only ones that flew were the bots that were planes, and even they could only fly while transformed into a plane. the decepticons could all fly though regardless of what they were, couldn't they?

As far as I can remember, the Autobots could fly in their robot forms.

The Autobots are shown flying a couple of times in More Than Meets the Eye parts 1-3. After those episodes though, they may have shown it but not too often.

It's weird when my OKP world collides with the rest.

Yeah, they're all shown as flying in the first mini, after that, it's only specific ones who can fly. Which is part of why they made such a big deal in the show of Jetfire joining the Autobots, they finally had some real air support. And the bit in... I can't remember the name of the episode, but where the Decepticons were escaping in a rocket, and Prime had to borrow someone's jetpack to catch up to it.

I believe that actually was in the introductory arc, More than Meets the Eye. The Autobots have been shown flowing in the first few episodes, but not so much after that.
But yes, I think generally as a rule Autobots didn't fly, but Decepticons did.

Yeah, Prime borrowed Sideswipe's jetpack.

Basically, they could fly at first.
Then, they tried to make everyone forget it ever happened.

I wonder why that is. Did they figure their should only have access to equipement that they'd have in their vehicle mode, and since cars can't fly...? Also, did this mean the Stunticons couldn't fly?
And Sideswipe had a jetpack?

And it looks like he was flying without one here.

But...why did he have a jet pack? And did his twin brother have one two? (And I know he had one so he could fly, but why just him and not the other autobots?)
I always wondered how Autobots could be brothers, then a read a recent who's who who said they are protoform brothers. *shrugs* Good enough for me.

I'm not sure. All the other animation cells show him not having the jetpack. I guess it was for story sake? I don't think Sunstreaker had a jetpack, at least what I can recall.

The Decepticons fly & the Autobots cannot fly. Originally, this set the two Transformers apart. Both developed transforming technology to fight the war the Decepticons began.
The Aerielbots could not even fly in robot mode, but they could fly in jet mode. The Stunticons could fly.
However, for "More Than Meets The Eye," all Transformers could fly.

oh well. looks like i lost this one. i'm man enough to admit when i'm wrong, but i sure as hell am not man enough to not complain about it and call it a technical defeat.
i still say autobots don't fly though. so they flew in the first story arc only to then pretty much get retconned out. then during the show it's shown plenty of times that they can't fly. i'm not satisfied.
so if your out there reading this V-man remember, you've one this battle, but the war rages on! ;)
and hey, thanks everyone for the quick replies. i appreciate it peoples.

My personal theory; all Transformers can fly.
However - Decepticons have a far more energy efficent method of flying than Autobots, who get far better milage on the road.
The Autobots possess the rudiments of this technology, but cannot upgrade this system into themselves due to structural limitations.
They were, however, capable of installing Decepticon-efficent flight devices in the Dinobots when they were initially constructed.
Thoughts?

Monkeysweat... found the Okayplayer thread you were talking about. I know this shouldn't be weird, but it kinda is.
