I know there are a few French Hellboy fans around here, as well as other folks who are closer to the Angoulême than I am (Fitz, Jakob, Jan!). There will be an International Encounter presentation with Mike Mignola:
http://www.bdangouleme.com/programme/index.ideal?type=anim&expo=1
EDIT: The Mike Mignola Encounter (sounds like a ride at Disneyland :p ) is followed by a "Hellboy Projection"! Is this Mike drawing Hellboy on an overhead projector perhaps? Coooooool.
I'd really like to go to this some day. I have a friend who has family in the general area that I could stay with. Comics, wine and cheese, what more could I want?
This looks really neat:

I hope someone will be able to give reports!
And now I'm wondering what a Hellboy amusement park ride would be like.

Looks like Angouleme isn't the only place. From www.album.fr (http://www.album.fr) homepage -

It's the coolest comics shop I've ever been in...
i live just as close as jan (guessing copenhagen?) but won't be going this year. but in a near future definitely. after all, this is the San Diego of Europe but with completely different comics, though

I'm a bit closer to France. I guess I'm gonna go and try my luck. I woke up today and decided that i should definitly do at least one more crazy thing befor I hit 20. So here I am. Now all I have to do is convince my parents to give me some cash and I'm off. Oh yeah... And I also need to find some cheep acomodation in Angouleme. Does any one know if there are any student's hostels there? I would be thankfull for any intel I could get. Plus: If some other HBborders are attending what would you all say for an European HB meet'n?(I know this has been mentioned a few times allready...)

Two more questions:
1)Is it nessesary to reserve tickets?
2)Is Mike going to attend any signing?

I won't go, but here's a link from another thread for finding a place to stay -

Maybe it helps!...
(And maybe I need this link next year...)

Thnx Ivar!
Also one more thing:
I don't mean to offend anyone but is it really true that french people don't speak many foreign languages? I don't know a word in French...

Well, as Ivar wrote, if you stop by Paris the day before:
"MIKE MIGNOLA (Hellboy) en dédicace exclusive à Paris!
25 janvier 2006
Album Comics
Des tickets seront distribués à l'ouverture du magasin à 10h et la dédicace commencera à 16h!"
Supercrappy translation:
"Mike Mignola exclusivly dedicating in Paris!
25 january 2006, Album Comics
The tickets are distributed on the opening of the store at 10 o'clock and the dedication starts at 4 pm."
Hey, that wasn't that bad!
Also one more thing:
I don't mean to offend anyone but is it really true that french people don't speak many foreign languages? I don't know a word in French...
Haha, well, it's true that they're bad at other languages (as are all inhabitants of a country that big, by the way). But you can get by with English and a little patiance, no problem.

As Ruta mentioned, to whoever IS attending the show and or doing a meet/greet with Mike in France, please create a report (with pics if possible), so that we can all live vicariously through you! ;)

I'll try to cover some of it with my in-mobile Camera. Also- One of my friend might lay me his profecional camera, so who knows- I might even do some video coverege. Still the only one attending, eh?

Seems the Angouleme is bound to be the no-hb-borders-land. I'v learned today tha one of my exams is be'n moved. It's gonna happen on the 27th. God damn it. No way I could attend this convetion... :( :( :( And I was so happy about get'n a meeting and a head sketch from mike... Curse the damn univeristy- how could they not take the date of a biggest EU comic convention into consideration... :( Well- back to books and learning... No more comics for me right now.

This seems like a perfect opportunity for creative cloning Khan, like in that American film Multiplicity, with Michael Keaton. :) Sorry, I know that doesn't help you and my eternal sympathies that you are unable to attend the convention.
On the plus side, Mike seems to do a show in Europe at least once a year, so maybe you can seek one out the next time he's in your area of the world.
Best of luck to you! :D

I will be here in Tallinn and read the coverage from the net...
:(
But -
one of the guys I know is going to Angouleme and will be there on Saturday. He will be as a common visitor with ticket, although he's a pro - he's a representative of Scandinavian Bulls Press, a distributor of newspaper strips and stock images. He will fly from Stockholm to Tallinn (ca 300 km) via Paris and Angouleme... :)
There will be several Finnish artists this year and he hangs out with them (he's already on a guestlist for some musical event), so I'm not surprised if he will get some sort of "guest" status there.
Anyway, he promised to look around for something I may be interested. It could be nice to get some autographs... For example, Dupuy and Berberian are there, their Monsieur Jean series is one of my favourite comics, about a 30-something frustrated writer. Really, really good stuff.
It could be very nice to know beforehand will there be any posters, sketchbooks etc on sale by Mignola?... I'm not interested about French books, got this oversized hardback, artbook (named La Bible Infernale!) and Box Full of Evil hb this summer. If there is, maybe I can prepare my friend to search or ask around for them...
I hope he will take a camera with him, so I can get some photos too.
PS: there's a very interesting English pdf about the festival on the official site:

Found with Google and translated with Babelfish:
One second chance for those which could not be in Angouleme: Mignola with Beaubourg on January 30, 2006 In Festival closure of the Comic strip of Angouleme, Bpi of the Pompidou Center and the Festival propose a meeting on the topic of fantastic, Monday January 30 at 7 p.m. (Large room), with Mike Mignola, Rodolphe Jacquette, François Rivière and Benoit Mouchart. The entry is free and free. Caution: No the scéance of dedications, it is a recontre.
So there's more Mignola/Hellboy in France than Paris (25) and Angouleme...

That's still in Paris. Should be "at" Beauborg--this cool place:
http://www.cnac-gp.fr/Pompidou/Accueil.nsf/tunnel?OpenForm
(Alas, I have never been to Paris, but researched it a lot for some projects.)
That last bit means that this will not be a session for dedications (ie. autographs, sketches) it is an encounter (meeting).
Man, wish I could be there! :(

Angouleme 2006 report (http://www.comicsreporter.com/index.php/briefings/eurocomics/4128/)
Thanks for posting that. Perhaps it's just the slant taken by the writer of the report, but it all sounds very depressing and not much fun. I'm sure it was much more fun that this report indicates (at least for the fans), but I'd need to hear a "man on the street" report from one of our Messageboard members before I could feel confident in thinking that (hint, hint). :D

Some more photos there, although someone from Finland said on their forum that he can't recognize from the photos the festival he visited...
