View Full Version : It's One Year Later... and who is Superman?

The obvious answer... Clark Kent.
However, unlike Batman, just by mentioning the same name he's always had, it doesn't mean the same person is behind the suit. We currently have 3 Clark Kents in continuity (excluding All-Stars if you count that as serperate). Given that there are rumours of the current SM is planning to leave. So which is going to be around after IC.
I'm hoping for Superboy-P to mature into the new Superman. We know he's getting a new costume, and DC have been partly regretting Clark and Lois being married for a while because it makes a lot of stories impossible. This could be the way out they've been looking for.
What do you think?

I see a temporary replacing of the current Superman with Earth 2 Superman myself. Clark will be stripped of his powers and trying to make a go at life with Lois, no more Superman. I think the 8 parter by Busiek and Johns will explore why Clark isn't just Clark though and how he gets into a lot of trouble without his powers and how he gets them back.

I chose the current Superman in your poll, Protonik, because in MY opinion, he is NOT the Earth-1 Superman. I feel that he is a completely different version, ala Earth-2 Superman.
I'll NEVER give up on the idea that Hypertime and the Multiverses exist. ;)

None of those options work for me. I suspect he'll be a combination of various incarnations of Superman.

No one knows what the new Superboy costume is. Just that the new action figures will have his new costume on. Given that OYL is around the corner, and he's still the same, I imagine the new costume is coming soon.

Please don't spoil anything (unless you - or anyone else - use the proper Spoiling tags). I haven't read IC #3 yet. Can you believe it?
Regarding the question at hand, I think it is our good ol' current Superman, if covers from the arc are any indication. Besides, I really hope it is our Superman.

It was in Wizard I believe. It said something about a Superboy toy with his new costume. That's where everyone found out there would be a costume. You know I've read IC#3, but I didn't even notice the costume change. Should look over it again.

I just checked another thread and found this. As I said, the new costume is going to be on a toy. I haven't rechecked IC#3, but I'm pretty sure the costume change hasn't happened yet. There's a link below for what the new costume supposidely looks like.

Jesus, that's a bad costume....
I hope the extra components are just merely snap-ons and not the REAL costume.

The 'extra components' are parts of the Anti-Monitor so it's not there as an extra gimmik. It's quite important to the comic and costume. For the actual toy however, they may make them removable.

I know NOBODY will agree, but I voted for a Conner Superman. I just think that a book that had Conner being Superman while living at the Titans Tower and the public being unaware that there had even been a "Super"switch. People complain that Superman books lack a basic direction, and even if this was just one book that had this going on I'd think it was awesome.
But then again my favorite book was Thuderstrike so what do I know. :D

Ahh, see, I think of Superboy as extremely misguided and hence his actions. If we see him as the new Anti-Monitor in IC, then find out he is now Superman, it's going to make us think about how he reformed.
We'll see how it develops. I just don't think it'll be Connor or E2 Superman. That leaves Superboy and E1 Superman. If E1 Superman is leaving or losing his powers (both big rumours), then the only choice is Superboy.

DC Direct rumors show a Superboy with a new costume. I won't ask who among the two Superboys this is gonna be, but Please confirm if it's true and if so, will we see this before or after Infinite Crisis?
DD: During and after.
from newsarama.com...
interesting... SB-Prime seems to be sticking around when all is said and done
also... after reading more of the same article, this also seems relevent:
?:A couple of days ago, we had the interview with Geoff and Kurt and there was mention of Superman leaping buildings, and being strong. No mention of flying. On none of the covers is he flying. With this in mind, and the speculation surrounding Clark losing his powers, will Superman be able to fly OYL?
DD: The real question is “Will Superman be around OYL?”

I vote for the current Superman. DC needs to trim back the Kryptonians and variants. How many are there: Superman (Earth-1 and Earth-2), Superboy-Conner, Superboy-Prime, Supergirl, Krypto, Bizarro and Power Girl. Did I miss anyone? I thought CoIE was supposed to cure all of this. Earth-2 Superman can go back to his dimension or kill him and E2 Lois off, it matters not to me. Dump Supergirl in the LoSH future. She spent a lot of time there pre-Crisis, so that's no great loss. I would argue to get rid of both Superboys but I'm sure DC wouldn't do that. So, merge the two into one Superboy. Power Girl can stay for the most obvious reason. And, that being you don't need two Supergirls. What did you think the reason was? I guess Krypto can stay since there is no one else to guard the Fortress of Solitude. But, if they bring back Streaky or any of the other super-animals, then I'm done!!!

I voted for the current one, and I hope that he comes out of the Crisis changed in many ways as one of the best parts from IC 1 was when Batman said to Superman that the last time he had really inspired people was when he had died.
For me the concept of Superman is an inspirational figure of hope, vast power put to good effect, public duty, and social responsibility, as well as doing something just because it should be done and because its right, not for any kind of reward or thanks. And all of this without him being corrupted by power like Luthor, the other side of the coin.
Superman duking it out with various villains might be fun, but I hope that at least one of the Superman titles after IC focuses on something bigger, brighter and more inspiring, both as him as a person and a figure of inspiration for joe average on the street. Someone to aspire to and someone who isn't human due to the sheer magnitude of his powers and abilities. A sort of view from the street, as it were. Also I hope to see a more introspective Superman given events, not broody like Bruce, but one who thinks more of what kind of an impact he has on people. That's my personal preference.

Indeed. I agree with both of you. DC needs to cut down the amount of Kryptonians in the DCU, and Superman is an inspirational figure of hope.
On my part, I hope his adventures are all of the larger-than-life kind.
I-ve always thought of Superman as a god among men, and this is DC's chance to show it. Epic adventures in space an on Earth, saving the Universe from the evil machinations of Darkseid and whatnot.
He should be a guy who can move planets and crush them with his bare hands. And a christ-like, awe-inspiring force of hope that makes the people try to be better.

Definitely, get rid of super-dogs and all that rubbish. If the current Supergirl is here to stay, then make her different, focus on other aspects, if Superman is a god amongst men, how does it make her feel to try and live up to that, and there are about a billion other angles you could try, not britney-supergirl fights X, where X is any team or person in the DC universe not previously seen in the pages of Supergirl.

There are other aspects to make her interesting, excluding the "she's stronger than Superman and has an attitude" fact.

None taken, I had very high hopes for this book given the excellent writer and artist, but they came crashing down, and issue 3 was as far as I could go with it. The second half of issue 3 was just her fighting Lex Luthor, and I did say team or an other DC character. I expected a lot and was disappointed. I saw nothing new or fresh or different, but that's just my opinion.

Thanks. Also, if you go back a couple of years to certain characters like say Guy Gardner when he was going into overdrive on his Vuldarian powers, he was as strong if not stronger than Superman. So, if you suddenly find you're not longer the top dog in terms of being at the top of the power scale, how does that make one feel? Could GG inspire and lead people to be more than they are in the same way that Superman can? As much as I like the character of GG the answer is no, he couldn't do it, but Superman can still make ordinarypeople feel like they can do anything just by saying hello to them or interacting in some way. Something new there they could explore with Superman, just another idea, but as Erik Larson says, its One Fan's Opinion, you may feel otherwise.

I so agree with you, that I'd shake your hand right away if you were in front of me. Superman is more inspirational than any other hero in any universe could ever hope to be.
That GG you talk about is the tattoed GG? the one who couild morph his hands into weapons and stuff? BTW, did he loose those powers or what?
And perhaps you'll call me a fanboy, but it is my opinion that Supes should be the top-dog in the DCU, power-wise, when it comes down to Superheroes.

Yeah, when Guy Gardner was using his Vuldarian powers, he had the tattoos all over him, and his book crossed over with Superman for a couple of issues when his new powers went haywire. In the Green Lantern mini that ran up to the new ongoing series, his Vularian powers went nuts, sort of eating him alive, I can't remember the specifics off the top of my head, but his powers are gone and he got a GL ring back. Hmm, I'm going to go back and read that actually, I did enjoy it.
Back on subject, Superman should lead by example, both the superhero community and as an inspiration to us mere mortals. He's lost that I feel. We'll see what DC comes up with after IC.
