This is the second volume of the tale of D. I'm not going to spoil anything in it, but I present a spoiler warning.

Anyways, down to business. I finished this less than a week ago and thought it was a great read.

Shortly over 200 pages it makes for a good week of reading. Can't wait for volume 3 to come out later this month.

What say my fellow posters?

Just finished reading the third. Frankly, I was... shocked? Great writing, quite a way with words, but the disturbing aspects were set on high. So many scenes.... and the Barbodios woman was far better here. I was wondering how they were going to meet Count Bathory(from the movie) but was glad they didn't. A far sadder end.

Strangly, though there's a lot of scenes that involve sex, did you notice that it was all unloving? Disturbing, and the new info about D's hand... wow. Totally unexpected. I'm both looking forward and dreading the next book.

I saw the first three volumes of this series in my local book store.I was debating picking it up, but i had figured it was written more fore teenagers then adults.I was wondering if it should have been placed in the teenage anime section that every Barnes an Noble i have been to as of late seems to have expanded.

Is this a good GOTHIC/ SCIFI Mature read?

It is very mature(volience, story, and sex wise) that it slightly scares me about the bruhah if a teenager picked it up. The closest comparision I could make is the first few Anita Blake novels, except with more attention to detail. There's a lot of exposition in them, and the world has some very interesting customs/tech that he explains quite well.

As to good.... yes, but fairly dark. It's not a good guys/bad guys world, but a world of survivors. D is... unusual in that sense, but it would be hard to explain it without major spoilers.

I most definatly will pick it up then. THey seemed to only be about 300 pages, which is perfect.I don't like 800 page epics it kind of makes me lose my interest.I have read a great deal of the Anita Blake series,I just droped that because it had become nothing more then Erotica with no story.I don't enjoy reading about a chars supernatural need for sex an to just follow it to see who she is nailing in the next scene.I hope that this book is more action then sex .

Yea. All the sex scenes are all unloving. Partly because the "victims" in the act were less than involved in it. All one sided. I am not shocked by anything after reading the first two.

I wasn't surprised at all by the fact that Borgoff, Kyle, Nolt and the disabled brother raped her to scare off the one guy who wasn't scared of her last name.

Though the ants eating Borgoff after he fell into the what sounded like a massive ant colony was very, very disturbing. Then having that leech thing...Baaaad mental image.

I was a lot more interested in how sunlight damaged Vampires and the effects it had on them.

This all sounds very deep an interesting, alittle "freaky" for a novel based off an anime.I have to give it a try it sounds more and more interesting.I had always pegged D as bisexual ,its not a gay mans hope for yet another gay char i was wondering if his sexuality was more explored in the books then the movies. He seemed completely un interested with the concept of sex in anyform with in the movies.

*blinks* Um, the anime is based off the novels, not the other way around. And no, it's pretty clear D is... well, not interested in sex that way. The first book has the most, but apperantly being alive that long as a dhampir turned all his desire toward blood. And while so far the books have all had female co-leads, they're treated more like sisters or friendly companions.

Oh, yeah. I've gotten used to the sexual stuff, though the notes in the second book put a disturbing spin on the first. And the Marcus brothers were all... well, other then Grove, who seemed a bit mentally damaged in this, were more monsters then what they were chasing.

And Catherine's powers... wow. That was an unexpected twist all around. She was actually a great villianess. I wish they had kept her intact for the movie, rather then splitting her into two villians.

Oh, and definitely more action then sex. I just mentioned the sex part because... while it's not graphic(other then two scenes in the second book, which are disturbingly so), it packs quite an impact.

I love Caroline from the novel. She was just awesome. A female Damphire. The final scene was great. The anime feels like it is mish mash of a few different books we haven't seen yet.

Borgoff...what a bastard. It must be said. The Marcus band in the novel were much more bastardly and much more competent. The anime Marcus family was incompetent comparative to the novel.

And yes, this novel was written I would image like 15 years ago. So there is no question that the anime is based on the novels.

My favorite series is Berserk. The sex in this series is nothing compared to those...

Hmm, yeah. I'm also a bit shocked at how much they do explain about D. *shrugs* I just was expecting more of a mystery man feel instead of what we got. Which I like.

I was actually a bit surprised at the whole "The Marcus clan had access to gene tech" part. I'm wondering wheither this puts it before the first two novels or after.(Oh, another thing I knew from fansites, but most don't, the novels aren't in order. But he's never said what order they're in. So it's a favorite game to guess.)

Oh, and everyone in the novels are much more competent then in the movies. Heck, I'm tempted to post a rumbles thread with D's feats from the novels. That might change a few fights...

I've had it since it came out but have yet to finish it. School got in the way, then I was going to read it during Spring Break, but ended up watching Utena and playing Pokemon instead, so now I'm just starting back on it today actually, and have started the second chapter.
