The new Blue Beetle looks too much like Abe Sapien!

Funn you should posts this, my friend tried convicing me that one of the covers was done by Mignola, he goes "Dude I swear, he's trying to make the BB look like that fish guy from HB". Well first I slapped him, fish guy from Hellboy? HB looking like Blue Beetle? He??????????????????????????

The colors are Abe-ish, but that's about it. Looks more like the Guyver to me:

Although I dig the Beetle elements in the costume. A little derivative overall, but I like it. Either way, I have no emotional connection to this character. I was a Marvel Zombie as a kid.

I completely agree Rick. I don't see any of Abe (unless you squint real hard and maybe turn yourself upside down :) in that Blue Beetle design. Although, even if it were Abe inspired, I think it would be a healthy and completely understandable homage', rather than some kind of cheap rip-off (not that you were implying a cheap rip-off). Cully's a stand-up guy and a great comics creator. I can't imagine his intentions would be anything but pure.

Imagine the blue parts of that costume are red. Does he still look like Abe? Nope. He looks like a Power Ranger. It's the colors and little pointy bits in the design that fool the eye.

I agree with Rick, it's more of a skintight mech type design similar to something you would see in Power Rangers...but I can see the hints of resemblance in the last panel of this page:

However, I think the pose, wide eyes and noseless face has more to do with it that anything

And yeah, I think the costume bears little resemblance to Abe and looks more like a fine Luchador outfit... if he was bare-chested.

looks more like the Seed of Destruction alien without his collar thingy to me. Mostly around the eyes. It's a stretch though.

Regardless...in my opinion what a cool looking new Beetle...maybe he will be Ted Kord's illegitimate love-child with a female icthyo-sapien from an alien space craft that abducted human seed for experimentation. That would make him Abe's brother, in a weird sort of way. That would settle the debate...it is a FAMILY resemblance.
