I had looked up on imdb.com and according to them FF7 Advent Children was supposed to have come out on the 10th. Well it wasn't on any shelves yesterday and when I asked today they said it hadn't been released yet.

So does anyone know when the DVD does come out?

Doesn't matter when it comes out. Everybody has already downloaded it off the Internet anyway.

Pika!

Two reasons why I won't do that:

1. It is illegal.

2. I'm still on dial up, it would be March before it finished loading.

I actually saw it on the big screen in the states. The Japanese club at my old Uni. snatched up the rights to show "Advent" as a preview film to test audience reactions. Shortly after the film got pulled out of a theatrical release in word of a simultaneous straight to video release. Needless to say they showed it anyway, having permission and all.

It was fun to see on the big screen with English subtitles! FIVE months later fans are still perplexed and wondering what happened to the simultaneous DVD release.

Most of my friends have the film downloaded, or have imported the actual special edition of the movie, which contains English subtitles. Either way, it's abundantly out there... and whatever marketing ploy that SQUARE/ENIX tried to do, whether it be cutting down on piracy or simultaneous releases, it didn't work, and the movie is a ghost at best. In FIVE more month we'll see if anybody even remembers if there was an "Advent Children" or not.

I'm surprised it hasn't been released. Perhaps they had problems with production [mabye trying to secure the original voices for the dub? It'd be nice], orders being too high or low, or stuff just happened in the licensing department with the Japanese [sometimes Japanese DVD companies require a delay in the US release, even if a licensor paid for the license awhile ago, to prevent japanese fans from importing the cheaper US version sooner. This isn't the case most of the time though].

Most of the people who downloaded it are probably people who don't bother buying Anime DVD's anyways, so I imagine it'll still do well when it comes out in March. And hopefully the reasons behind the delay will be clarified by then.

Maybe it's just me, but that sounds like a pretty broad statement. I mean, that's like saying everyone who owns an iPod probably doesn't pay for their music anyway.

I mean, downloading something that is already liscenced is one thing. Pirating is totally a seperate thing. Pirating is selling a product which somebody else made and making a profit off of another person's work.

It's strange to me that somewhere along the line people have lost the distinction between the two. Maybe it's because the Napster advent caused people to realize that they have to protect a property better.

If anything, this is what Square/Enix is trying to do, protect a property. But initially the press releases stated that the simultaneous release was supposed to be the "security" against massive shareware downloads. Either way, the bottom line is, there is no movie after half a year. Downloads are bound to happen.

According to this news posted on www.animeondvd.com (http://www.animeondvd.com/) :

Advent Children Delayed Again? (10:40 AM EST): The release if Final Fantasy: Advent Children has been problematic in that there have been numerous dates solicited for it but according to the way it's being phrased at the news item on the Digital Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/), it probably should not have been solicited at all yet. According to the news post, Bill Hunt wrote "Mike Stradford told me that Sony's working hard to get the film released on DVD here in the States by the end of 2006. Apparently, it's taking a little extra time to work with the director to get all the supplemental elements finished, but the title is on track for release sometime later this year."

This sucks.
I was really looking forward to being able to buy FF7 AC in March.
Now we might not even get it in 2006 at all.

:( :(

You know, my Dad(who's in his 50's, and knows pretty much nothing about Final Fantasy), managed to score a bootleg copy of Advent Children a couple of months ago(and a high-quality one at that). I refused to watch it because I thought the real release was coming out soon. I even held back when it was moved back to March.

I'm just about ready to change my mind on that right now.

How so? There hasn't been a backlash against the movie and people still talk about it occasionally. Of course the buzz is going to die down a little after a while. Good job on foreseeing something that's obvious (b^_^)b

I was talking about the delay past March. Which was a delay past September. Which was a delay past Feb. 16, a year ago. Just saying. :o

I'm not complaining or anything... I've had my copy of the DVD for over 10 months now. I even remember standing in AnimeMate in downtown Kumamoto as I gazed at the glorious CGI work on the back of the DVD box. Still is pretty.

For those who didn't like downloading illegally from the internet or currently don't own a region free DVD player...

From the Digital Bits (2/13/06):

Here's another title we're pleased to say has finally been announced (we just mentioned how hard Sony was working to get it done a couple weeks ago - down near the bottom of our 1/31 post)... Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children has been slated for DVD release on 4/25 (SRP $26.96) as a 2-disc special edition. You'll get anamorphic widescreen video, Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, deleted scenes, a story digest, a "making of" featurette, Venice Film Festival footage and a sneak peek at upcoming games in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII videogame series. FYI, a UMD version for the PSP will be available on 4/25 as well.

Check here (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3147962 ) for English cast.

There's no indication that this will contain Japanese soundtrack though.

Wrong, I have more dvds than I know what to do with. Just had to see what all the hype was about. I thought the overall effect was amazing, and can't wait to see it and (*gasp*) BUY it in English.

I'm really eager to buy it BUT I have no idea exactly when its gonna be released.
I've heard April 2006 or Sept 2006 or maybe even some time in 2007.
I hope it comes out in April but if not I can always watched the fan-subbed version.
