Who is Johann?

I'd like to start out by saying hi to everyone. Now I've read a good amount of Hellboy books but I will admit that I'm behind. I recently pre-ordered the second series of the Hellboy comic figures and I was wondering who Johann was. Could someone help me out?

Johann was a spiritual medium who was able to manifest himself outside his body as an ectoplasmic form. During one of these experiences where his essence was outside his body, his physical body was destroyed, therefore he had nothing to return to. BPRD scientists were able to create a containment suit for Johann. He then moved his ectoplasmic form into the suite, where he currently resides and does his thing.

The details of the explanation above could be just a tad off, as Johann is not my speciality. Perhaps others with more Johann knowledge could chime in?
