I understand that a bunch of fire-based villains battled Superman in this most recent issue. Don't have access to the issue, so does anyone have a list of who they were?

You read my mind. I just finished reading the latest Crisis Counseling and was wondering just that. The only fire-based guy I know the Society has is Firefly, and he died in OMAC PROJECT #6

Scorch, Heatwave, Effigy, and Plasmus.

A little more detail:
Heat Wave is a long-term member of the Flash's Rogues. He recently returned to the dark side after finding out that his reform (during which he worked with Superboy at Cadmus) was caused by a mindwipe.
Scorch (IIRC) was one of Zod's lieutenants (not Krypton Zod, recent crappy armoured Zod); she had seemed to turn over a new leaf during a relationship with Martian Manhunter in Joe Kelly's JLA run so I was surprised to see her a villain here - although she turned out okay in the end, I guess.
Effigy is an enemy of Green Lantern Kyle Rayner, and a product of experiments by the Controllers. I think the last time we saw him a few years back in GL #142, but he may have popped up since then.
Plasmus was a member of the Brotherhood of Evil and has battled the Titans, Superman, Steel and most recently Young Justice over the years.
Hope that helps!

Shame about Effigy , i thought he had potential when he first appeared , he was supposed to be Kyle's sinestro since his energy flame power construct are similiar to Kyle's ring construct and create a contrast but somewhere along the line , he got hosed and now he's just some random C-list villain with flame powers.

Scorch, BTW, was not one of Zod's people. She was created by the Joker along with Bizarro and brought to our universe by Mr. Mxyzptlk.
I wish we could see more of Bounty, the cybernetic cowboy, or Gorgeous Gilly, the pheromone powered zombie.

I thought Scorch died helping the JLA.

He's only hosed because Winnick came up with the idea of Nero, Kyle's 'Sinestro'. Effigy though definitely had the potential set-up, judging from where Marz probably wanted to go with the character.
Then Johns brought back Hal Jordan and Sinestro, and that's that :(

Slight more details can be found in her 'origin' two page story in the trade paperback JLA: Trial By Fire.

Gorgeous Gilly actually re-appeared in an issue of Superboy during Kelly's run -looks like she came over to the mainstream DCU as well. I wasn't too excited about Bounty, so to me his re-appearance is a resounding 'meh'. I didn't see past the 'flying cowboy with laser pistols' gimmick.
Batzarro is also from that alternate Mxy universe too!

Seriously FUBARed in the head (read: comatose), thanks to Fernus, but not technically dead, as I recall.
