Which of Superman's three homes are most influential upon the overall development of his personality?

Golden Age, mostly Metropolis. Smallville was skimmed over in a couple of panels, and he didn't even know about Krypton until 1949.

Silver Age, about evenly divided between Smallville and Metropolis. As the Sixties turned into the Seventies, he became more influenced by his Kryptonian heritage sort of retroactively. "Great Scott" began to give way to "Rao" as his exclamation of choice. Contact with the people of Kandor began to have an effect, he began celebrating Kryptonian holidays, he learned Klurkor (Kryptonian Karate).

Post-Byrne, definitely Smallville, tempered by life in Metropolis. But his core values were entirely shaped by the Kents during his childhood.

that's incredibly knowledgeable and makes sense. i voted smallville primarily because the mythos has always made me believe that the kents are the primary force that created superman with a small percentage being from his discovery of his heritage. clark kent as he has come to be is the disguise kal-el created for metropolis, superman is the man that the kents raised IMO.

Each one is the most important influence on Superman, but at different times in his life. As a boy, its Smallville, as a young man, its Metropolis and, as he grows older and learns more and more about his alien heritage, its Krypton.

I'm going to vote for Smallville, because that is the influence that keeps him as the ultimate good guy. Without the caring parents, rural upbringing, and moral guidance, he wouldn't be the Superman we know.

Too much "Metropolis" and he becomes more like the Superman from "A Better World." Too much "Krypton" and he neglects his own humanity, and empathy for humans (as in Kingdom Come).
