Give me some What if and/or Exiles story ideas. What alternate reality would you think would be cool.

The Fantasitc Four were the Fantastic Four horseman of Apolcalpse?

I would like to see in Exiles I world of magic that has a city of Science run by Reed Richards, Tony Stark and Henry Pym. The world would mostly be covered with mystic territories controled by Dr Doom, Scarlet Witch, and Dr Strange. I could see this being a long arc doing a indepth exploration of this mystical reality.

Originally, the X-men were in a shuttle crashing towards the earth when Jean Grey agreed to try to pilot it and use her TK to hold back the radiation. Phoenix noticed her dying and took her place. For a what if, Logan would have just tried to use his healing factor to live though the radiation. Simple set up really.

Wolverine lacked the knowledge to fly a space shuttle. That's why Jean Grey flew the space shuttle; she believed her telepathy gave her enough knowledge from Dr. Peter Corbeau & her telekinetic powers would keep out the solar flare. Unfortunately, the solar flare was too powerful that Jean's telekinetic powers withered under the onslaught. She succumbed to the solar radiation.

I'm not too certain Wolverine's healing factor would have been powerful enough to withstand the solar flare. I think he & the X-Men would have died before they reached Earth.

Actually, all of those have been done in some form or another. The last two were in the same issue Volume 2 number 25.

I'll come up with some "What If?" storylines inspired by actual events:

* What if Bishop killed The X-Men? When Bishop travels back into time with Malcolm and Randall, they start killing the rogue mutants from their future. However, The X-Men (Storm, Jean Grey, Colossus, Iceman and Archangel) try to stop them and Bishop ends up killing them, thinking they were imposters to the legends that inspired him. Realizing his mistake and later asking Charles Xavier for forgiveness, Bishop joins The X-Men and forms a new team with Cable, Sage and Caliban.

* What if Hank Pym remained Yellowjacket? When the founding member of The Avengers became Yellowjacket, he was insane enough to think he was not Hank Pym. Eventually, a series of events and inadequacies lead to Pym being dismissed by The Avengers and facing federal court martial charges after being blackmailed by Egghead. In this reality, Pym -- not Hawkeye -- kills Egghead and continues life as a supervillain and wanted fugitive.

* What if The Vision married Mantis? The synthezoid member of The Avengers was strangely attracted to Mantis, the mysterious woman who eventually became The Celestial Madonna. Both Vison (The Scarlet Witch) and Mantis (The Swordsman's spirit via the Cotati) got married to other people on the same day, but what if it was The Vision and Mantis who said "I do?" Both go off into space and live their own lives, but what how does their marriage affect Mantis' destiny?

What if Cable became Professor X.

When cable goes back in time, one of his enemies follows and they end up killing off Xavier before he ever gets the idea to found the X-men. Cable, trying to correct the time frame, alters his looks to more closely match Xaviers and goes about trying to create the X-men and Xavier's dream with his more harsh methods.

With comics moving in a darker direction these days, the idea can't be that disturbing. The comic could be under the MAX imprint.

With the way things are going with DC Comics now I see your point. I wonder if Logan had sex with X-23 would that be considered masturbation since X-23 is technically Logan's clone?

Here are some more:

* What if Reed Richards became Doctor Doom? During their time as college students, Victor von Doom was working on an experiment to save his mother's soul. However, Reed Richards interferes and the experiment's explosion destroys Richards' face and kills Doom. After spending two years in a coma, Richards awakes and thinks that he is Doom. Stealing away from the hospital, Richards emerges as the leader of Latveria and embarks on a dangerous mission to save the soul of Doom's mother.

* What if Namor joined Magneto? The leader of The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and Charles Xavier surmised correctly that Namor is a mutant. Receiving offers from both men, Namor sides with Magneto. Though repulsed by how Magneto leads his Brotherhood, Namor sees him as an ally in his battle against the surface dwellers. Namor's Atlantean forces and Magneto's charges succeed in taking over the United States and Europe, but the alliance is strained when The Scarlet Witch leaves Magneto's side to join Namor's.

* What if Bullseye killed The Black Widow? Shortly before Elektra comes on the scene in "Daredevil 168," Bullseye kidnaps The Black Widow as a trap to capture Daredevil. However, during this battle The Black Widow dies at Bullseye's hand. Now haunted by her death, Daredevil joins forces with Elektra and Hawkeye to hunt down an insane Bullseye, who now has figured out that Matt Murdock is The Man without Fear and has targeted Foggy Nelson, Heather Glenn and Ben Ulrich for death.

* What if S.H.I.E.L.D. found Captain America? Instead of Captain America's body being discovered by The Avengers, Nick Fury's charges pull rank that particular day and find the legendary soldier from World War II. Now the top-ranking officer for the international peace-keeping unit, Cap now leads hundreds of trained soldiers (including former Interpol agent Sean Cassidy, colleague Sam "The Falcon" Wilson and Cap's fiancee Carol Danvers) to fight international terrorists The Red Skull and Baron Zemo.

* What if Mephisto owned The Silver Surfer's soul? In a complex scheme in which Mephisto hypnotically had the herald Nova fall in love with Galactus, a fighting Silver Surfer and Nova are trapped on a planet. Mephisto appears and tells The Surfer that an unchecked Galactus will destroy countless planets without Nova to curb him. The Surfer pledges his soul to keep Galactus in check. While Galactus realizes Mephisto deceived him and defeats him, the planet devourer frees Nova from her spell but says The Surfer made his deal with Mephisto on his own -- leaving him in Hades.

* What if Iron Man joined The Hellfire Club? In this reality, a young Tony Stark joins The Hellfire Club and eventually moves into the Inner Circle. Stark becomes intoxicated with the idea of ruling the world through clandestine methods and lends his technological resources and talents to his college friend Sebastian Shaw and his lover Emma Frost. Now confronting an up-and-coming group called The Avengers, Stark dons a suit of armor to aid the Inner Circle in battle -- little knowing that his mutant allies are looking for a way to remove the human Stark from their ranks.

What if Spider-girl was trapped in the past?

In her series, she ended up traveling though time and meeting Spider-man when he was still a rookie in highschool. What if she had never managed to get home to her own timeline?

* What if Wolverine led Alpha Flight? During a battle between The X-Men and Alpha Flight, the dimunitive mutant stops the fight and agrees to go back to Canada, as seen in "Uncanny X-Men 121." However, in this reality Logan stays and becomes the leader of the Canadian superhero team. Now, Wolverine, Vindicator, Snowbird, Shaman, Northstar, Aurora, Marina and Sasquatch emerge as the premier superhero team in the world -- and eventually go into battle with Count Nefaria with Canada hanging in the balance.

* What if Medusa stayed with The Frightful Four? During her period of nomadic-like existence, Medusa was found by The Wizard and recruited into The Frightful Four. In this reality, the Inhumans never leave Attilan to find her and later she falls in love with The Wizard. Now in a dramatic battle with The Fantastic Four, Medusa meets her sister Crystal (who has temporarily replaced The Invisible Woman as a member) and questions her loyalties to her heritage or to The Wizard, The Red Ghost and The Super-Skrull.

* What if Scourge killed the Marvel heroes? The enigmatic Scourge was a programmed killer who terrorized the supervillain community. However, in this reality, Jack Monroe (Nomad) is captured as a killing machine by Henry Gyrich, Bastion and Sebastian Shaw to take down the Marvel heroes. After slaughtering minor heroes like D-Man, Triathlon and Deathcry, Scourge steps up the body count in a dramatic fashion -- killing one of The Avengers in Avengers Mansion and later one of The X-Men at the Xavier Institute! Now the heroes unite to take vengeance, while Captain America struggles with the realization one of his former charges has gone rogue.

I'll come up with more ideas, if you would like to hear them.

All three of those ideas would make really good stories.

I agree with DDM's stance. Part of the buy-in with "What If?" stories were they were based on the foundation of established stories, or at least a very plausible fact or relationship. The reason why the Phoenix Force came to Jean Grey in "Uncanny X-Men 100" was because she was the only one who could fly the space shuttle and use her abilities to attempt to ward off the heat and radiation when the shuttle entered Earth's atmosphere. Wolverine's healing abilities do not work in such manner. He would have had his skin sheared off his skeleton, thus The X-Men would have died.

"What If?" stories don't work well when based on totally new fiction. Having a story where Wolverine leaves The X-Men to become the leader of Alpha Flight makes more sense because it nearly happened. Having Wolverine become Phoenix when the situation in "Uncanny X-Men 100" did not make it plausible comes off as creating new fiction -- thus hampering the credibility of the concept.

If I was in control of the "What If?" concept, my books would have one storyline every quarter so more in-depth stories can be written.

First, I would have the Phoenix-powered Susan Richards face Galactus, who comes to Earth to consume it. Then later I could have a story where Susan Richards' thoughts become corrupted by Doctor Doom, which leads her down that path to becoming Dark Phoenix. As she starts transforming she has a philosophic discussion with Thanos on who will destroy the universe first.

Yeah buddy! I had that idea a long time ago and drew a picture of Sue's old FF costume torn and exposing the Phoenix costume underneath. This story would so kick ass. Just imagine the Phoenix at all the major events of the FF's career--especially a battle with Silver Surfer!

They were close. On What If 25 all three things happened. I was wondering if only one of things happened. Set states in Atlantis Attacks that for him to win all 3 of those things would have to happen for him to win. In 616 none of those things happen. In my vision of the story, the cosmic rays would have killed Reed Richards, Susan Storm, Benjamin Grimm and Johnny Storm had the Phoenix Force not merged with Susan Storm. The cosmic rays never would have given them superhuman abilities. If anything, I would have the three men suffer either physically or mentally from absorbing all the radiation from the ill-fated flight.

Illyana's story can go in all sorts of directions. Although to be corrupted by her power, Magik would have to murdered Belasco; this would have turned her permanently into the Darkchilde. I would have her return from Limbo, but she would be in her Darkchilde incarnation at all times. Her armor would be black instead of silver. Illyana's Soulsword would also be black to reflect her corrupted soul. However, Illyana's connection to Kitty remains which is where the story begins. She does join the New Mutants, but eventually, Magik joins the Hellions instead to favor the Hellfire Club. Another continuity divergence is that Illyana helps the White Queen recruit the New Mutants for Hellions. Therefore, instead of Magik & Mirage saving the New Mutants, Magik helps the White Queen subvert the New Mutants for Hellfire. The White Queen still cannot read Illyana's mind & not influenced by Emma Frost. However, Frost favors Illyana over several of her Hellions because Magik is a great resource of raw power to be manipulated. Magik, Empath, & Tarot are the core Hellions. Magik spends equal amount of time between Earth & Limbo. This troubles the White Queen. Xavier's school closes after the New Mutants are recruited by the White Queen...

I personally can see Marvel Girl and Angel as the couple in that scenario, with the typical Havok/Polaris/Iceman triangle continuing.

Mister Sinister influenced Cyclops because he was still at the orphanage when Havok was adopted. Though you could twist things even further by saying it was Mister Sinister who adopted Cyclops, leaving Havok to be discovered by Charles Xavier.

What If Cyclops and Havok were adducted by the Sh'ar with their parents.


This one would play out that all the pachutes were damaged. So no one escapes the plane. So the Sh'ar captures all of the Summers clan. I would lead into a space adventure with Cyclops and Havok as Starjammers. We would also have to see the X- Men play out without Cyclops. In my opinion Xavier would find another student to fill Cyclops place. I feel that he would have recuited one of the New X-Men eariler.(since it was shown that he knew about them, only because of there international issues he selected them for the second class) I believe that Thunderbird since he was in the U.S would have been selected.

Since Limbo is timeless he goes back in time to Cyclops`childhood so he can have the offspring of Jean/Cyckes to manipulate times/reality so he can have his soul back. Malice is one of his experiment, an alternate reality version of his beloved Kitty(she`s immaterial like Kitty can do and has to attach herself to another being to survive).

An important part of the story would be that the Marvel heroes' parents do not make as effective super-heroes as their children. Their actions endanger the world, and Nathaniel Richards is forced to go back in time to restore the timeline he altered by becoming a super-hero.

What If...The X-Men had been formed in the 40's. On this earth Charles Xavier was born decades before his time. Xavier was a normal child and teenager until he discovered he was a mutant. After learning he was a mutant. Xavier started traveling the world and adventuring thoughout the 1930's. Even volunteering for the british army in 1938. Injuried in battle in 1939. Xavier retired from adventuring and returned home.

When he returned home, he learn of the existed of two more mutants Namor the Sub Marriner, and Toro the sidekick of Human Torch. Realizing thou his experiance in the war. That a future conflict between human and mutant would happen. Xavier realized that coexistence was the only way. Believing that if mutants were to help win the war against Hitler. A giant step towards his dream would be achieved.

Recuiting both Toro and Namor, Xavier sets out to find other mutants. He finds Logan, Mystique, and Destiny. Together they formed the X-Men

Here's a few stories that I've always wanted to see. Being a collector of What if myself, I've had some good ideas here and there. Though it does get alittle tough to think of ones that havn't been done already in some way or another.


What if Black Bolt could speak? (they should just do this one already. I think some What if? fans are foaming at the mouth for an official issue about what if he could speak :P)

What if the Beyonder lived? (born from his mama machine as the most omnipotent human ever. I've always wondered what he would have done next if Molecule Man didn't kill him before being born. He could have been the most powerful superhero ever, or the most dangerous I guess)

What if the Silver Surfer killed Galactus? (by using the Infinity Gaunlet, the death of Galactus unleases the "gift" to the universe that he predicted would happen if he died)

What if Spiderman never hid his identity? (a whole new Spiderman from the start, his costume would be different and would more casually reveal his face. Everyone knows and says, "Hey, there goes Peter Parker, the Spiderman!" Plus he would swing around in normal clothes to go to the store and stuff while sticking to walls, but does that mean the possible demise that his alternate self feared?)

What if the Fantastic Four became Hulks? (they save Banner from the gamma bomb and each become a Hulk. I'm thinking along with thier current powers too and they control the Hulk power at will. The Thing would be a green rock monster with a more increased rage strength, imagine a 15 ft tall super green Thing, maybe a twist is that he can control it now? Plus a fire Hulk, invisible force field weilding she Hulk, and a stretch Hulk. Hehe, I remember my stretch armstrong Hulk.)

(I posted this on Rumbles, but maybe it'd be better off here...)

During World War 2, Captain America and Bucky are on their way to their latest assignment...when a sniper manages to hit and kill Bucky! Vengence driven, Cap attacks the Nazis' and manages to free Eric Lesher and his parents!

Feeling Bucky has been justly avenged, Captain America takes the young, awed, and inspired Eric as his new partner.

During the war, Magneto/Bucky becomes as immensely popular as his mentor...and he aids Cap in missions with his budding...though currently minor..magnetic powers. As fate would have it, Mags and Cap are thrust into the same position as Bucky and Cap...with the rocket exploding and sending Cap into suspended animation...but leaving Magneto/Bucky alive to carry on.

Even after the war, Magneto retains his immense popularity, and no one cares about him being a mutant or not. How will the Marvel Universe be different? What happens when Captain America returns? Would mutants find greater acceptance seeing as how one of them helped win World War 2 and was seen as a huge hero?

What If.....Marvel time didn't exist. WWII heroes aged and died. Magneto and Charles Xavier entered the 80's in their late 50's/early sixties. The Avengers and the younger X-Men formed in the 60's and by the year 2000 had been replaced by an entirely new generation....

What If.....Captain America was never frozen, but vampirised during a mission. The serum initially appears to give him immunity, but eventually overwhelms him. Attempts to recreate a synthesize a serum from him and create more super soldiers only succeeds in creating Blade, Hannibal King and Deacon Frost.

There was a great idea in the Rumbles Board of What If... Magneto was rescued from Auschwitz by Captain America during WW2 and became the new Bucky. Eric would have been the right age for it, and lord knows how that would have affected human-mutant relations in the present day.

The Atlanteans did have powerful magicians before the island sunk into the ocean. The pre-cataclysmic Atlanteans used the Darkhold to transform their slaves into vampires. Eventually, the vampires overpowered the Atlanteans. Varnae was lord of all vampires until he was replaced by Dracula...

What If the Beyonder joined the Avengers?

Wasp asked the one from Beyond to join: What if he took her up on her offer? I see him using that machine from Secret Wars II #9 to depower himself slighty(or become a human with cosmic powers). He and Dazzler hook up, and Ali also joins the Avengers. Doom, meanwhile , takes the power Beyonder sacrificed and goes on to take it all. He conquers the earth and kills most of its heroes: it's up to Beyonder to regain his powers at all costs and avenge his fallen comrades.

What If the heroes were villains and vice versa?

Self explanatory. Peter Parker is the villaious Arachnid, while Otto Octavious is the heroic umm...Mr. Octopus?The Red Skull battles a fascist Captain America. The Brotherhood against the evil X-Men, Doom battes the evil Four, etc.

What If the Hulk had remained an Avenger?

Hulk doesn't walk away from the team, and stays with them thru every Avengers era, including Cap's Kooky Quartet. Bruce winds up falling for Wanda, and she uses her magic to fuse the separate halves of his nature t ogether. During the Dissasembled Crisis, can Bruce save his beloved from going down a dark path?

What If All five of the original X-men had become Apocalypse's Horsemen?

X-Factor is defeated and becomes Apocalypse's new Horsemen. Jean and Madelyne are fused into a new Phoenix, Beast becomes Pestilence, Angel becomes a different type of Death(black wings, a robe,),etc.

What If Sue Richards was The Thing?

All the FF gain each other's powers(Reed is the Invisible Man, Ben the Torch, Johnny Rubber Man), leaving Sue the power of the Thing. Lacking Ben's mental block, she can shift back and forth between both forms(although she remains looking like the original thing, never becoming rocky). All her repressed anger and sensuality come to the fore, ala She Hulk. She is drawn to the more agressive Ben Grimm rather than the soft spoken Reed Richards, and the two marry. However she has affairs with other men(including Reed) that lead to a superhero intervention. Angered, she leaves the team and sides with Doom...

What If the alien symbiote had possessed Mary Jane instead of Eddie Brock?

The alien symbiote, driven insane by Pete's rejection, looks for the perfect vessel for revenge. It passes up Brock and settles on Spidey's new wife, Mary Jane. It taunts Peter, telling him the only way he can stop it is to kill his own wife!

What If both Rick Jones and Bruce Banner became Hulks

Both Bruce and Rick are caught in the gamma blast and become the Grey(Bruce) and Green(Rick) Hulk, respectively. Both are recruited by SHIELD and used for black-ops work, assassinations, wars, etc.

What If Rick Jones kept the powers given to him by the Beyonder?

In an issue of ROM, Beyonder temporarily gave Rick Hulk-like powers, but he gave them up at the end. In this reality, he keeps them and becomes an adored, Superman-type hero.

What If Ultron Mark Twelve(the one with human emotions) had lived?

Mark Twelve reshapes his body into a more humanoid figure and joins the WCA
along with his father Hank Pym, who(as he was powerless at the time) fashions an Iron Man based armor for himself and becomes Ant-Man once more.

What If Frank Castle and his wife died, but his children didn't?

Lisa Barbara follows in her father's footsteps and becomes the Punisher, her brother, Frank Jr. becomes a cop. Eventually, the two come face to face. Will the siblings die at each oter's hands?

What is Betty Ross became the Hulk?

Worried about Bruce,Betty goes out onto the bomb site, pushes both him and Rick into the lead lined trench, and takes the full brunt of the gamma bomb herself. I see this as a sort of wonder woman type story, with the Gamma powered Betty(or Gammazon) always rescuing the vaguely effeminite Banner from danger at every turn.

What if the Fantastic Four stopped Apocalypse? The Fantastic Four had been sent back in time to the era of King Tut, yet they went back to theri own time just prior to En Saba Nur making his first major attack. What if they had waited a bit longer and been around to stop Apocalypse?

What if Spider-girl had been stranded in the past? For a brief time, Spider-girl went back and met Spider-man when he was just starting out his career as a super hero. What if she couldn't get back and got stuck in a time when she's about the same age as her dad?

What if Deadpool joined the Avengers? Deadpool showed up claiming to be an Avenger when he breifly possessed the powers of Thor. What would have happened if the team gave him a chance?

"No More Mutants" actually meant no more mutants. Not 198, not mutants getting their powers back after a time. It means not a single mutant in the entire Marvel Universe. Marvel will have to fall back on accidents and gamma/cosmic rays to activate the metahuman gene.

The USA decided to continue with their invasion of Wakanda in the Black Panther.

Marvel actually did something that changed the status quo of their universe.

He offers Wanda Maximoff & her brother, Pietro, membership of the X-Men. Together they join Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel, Iceman, & Cyclops as the original X-Men!

What If--Phil Sheldon had saved Gwen Stacy from the Green Goblin? In Marvels, Phil Sheldon was interviewing Gwen Stacy about her father's death from falling debris as the result of a battle between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus. He was going to meet with her when she promised to hand him her father's journal, but the Green Goblin beat him there, leading to the tragic moment where GG killed Gwen.

But what if Phil had arrived a minute sooner, distracting GG long enough for Spider-Man to arrive, preventing Gwen's abduction and murder. After defeating GG and sending him to jail, Spider-Man, in gratitude, asks Phil how he can repay him. Phil answers, "Meet me at police HQ tomorrow. The police don't consider you a suspect in Capt. Stacy's murder, but do want to question you. They know Doc Ock is the culprit, but they need your testimony to put him away." Spider-Man reluctantly agrees, and as a result builds a new positive relationship with the police. Meanwhile, Gwen hands her father's journals to Phil, who reads them. In the last entry, Capt. Stacy wrote down that he had discovered that Peter Parker was Spider-Man. Thus, Phil Sheldon is given a dilemma; does he protect the secret of a hero he admires, or write the story that will make his career--and destroy Spider-Man's life?

Only to be killed by several supervillians when they figure out she must be his ex-wife.

What If Morlun Came For Jessica Drew?

This time Morlun did'nt give into his feelings of revenge instead he deceided to build up his power by killing an simlar totem (or what he assumes is) totem based person. Jessica Drew who just made her comeback fits the bill perfectly resulting in Morlun attack Drew only to find he has to get through Wolverine first. In the carnage Morlun feeds off Wolverine instead and is reduced to a feral state and ends up being captured by SHIELD agents.

What If Morlun Battled The New Avengers?

In a simlar vein to "What if the Avengers battled cosmic carnage" during Spidey's battle with Morlun the New avengers appear to back up there team mate in the chaos Morlun breaks Captain America, feeds of Spider-Woman nearly kills Luke Cage before the Sentry appears and attempts to throw him into space only to have the vampire start to feed him and steal his powers. To stop Morlun ever returning he throws himself into the sun just how silver surfer did with carnage.

There was a great idea in the Rumbles Board of What If... Magneto was rescued from Auschwitz by Captain America during WW2 and became the new Bucky. Eric would have been the right age for it, and lord knows how that would have affected human-mutant relations in the present day.

Bruce and Doc Samson finally merged all of the personalities into the 'Professor' Hulk- a super strong, 7', green powerhouse with Bruce's intellect but a little of the Grey's scarcam and cunning. However the Professor was a fake, a new idealized Hulk, but What if the Professor had been the real, true personality? how does this effect Hulks later history?

The hot headed Warrior gets off the plane when ordered and does not die! He still does not fit into the X-Men but sticks around... what happens to X-Men history? Esp when the New Mutants come along, what about his brother?

Aunt May is no fool, she knows Peter is up to something and uncovers his secret as Spider-Man! Keeping the secret from him she writes letters/campigns to undermine the Bugles campign.....eventually she confronts Jonah about Spidey and ends up falling for him!

The one night stand goes wrong and Cyttorak ensures that She-Hulk will carry the new heir to his power to term! How do Cain and Jennifer react? What will it be like raising their child? What what happens when the new Avatar of Might grows up?

Rhino gained super genius intelligence but lost it again (willingly) but what if he had kept most of it? Spider-Mans long term foe is now a reformed man! A Hero! ...... or is he??

Doctor Doom, being both a scholar and a man of magic, must have heard of Cyttorak during his studies. What if Doctor Doom went searching for Cyttorak's temple, knowing that it held great magical powers inside. Could you imagine the scientific and magical power of Doctor Doom being augmented by the unstoppable might of the Juggernaut? Who could have taken him down? He would been a figure with power on the cosmic level, probably able to rival even Thanos.

What If...The X-Men Were Celebrated Heroes?: What would happen if mutants became celebrities; whereas, mutated humans were persercuted for being different?

This happened (sort of) in:

What If? Vol. 2, #77: What if Legion killed Magneto.

In this, mutants aren't really feared because Magneto never started his attack against humanity. The X-Men are celebrities rather than super heroes.
