Very funny, but it's to be expected. That's been going on since Day 1. It's really amusing to go back and re-read the very early issues of Amazing. People were complaining by issue 3 or 4 that Peter had changed too drastically since issue 1. And it's even funnier to see people whine about continuity glitches. There were continuity flubs a couple issues in. Nothing major, but no continuity flub ever is. The funny part is the verve and tone people displayed in those letters. It's quite entertaining, especially now that it's been so long and none of those mistakes ever amounted to anything anyway. Time gives you perspective.

My favorite classic Spider-Man goof was, in one issue, the letterer (possibly Rosen) accidently called the main character "Peter Palmer". I think some of the letter hacks caught that, but damn, what a misprint.

Stan himself had a hard time keeping track of his character names. Bruce Banner became Bob, later explained as "Robert Bruce Banner." Liz Allen's name was spelled differently quite a bit in the early issues.

I bought the entire run of Claws of the Cat a couple of years ago, and some of the letters are a hoot. Especially the ones saying that Marvel is trying to destroy American values by trying to get women to leave their rightful place in the kitchen.

Point taken. However, neither "Bob Banner" nor "Liz Allan" sounds quite as unsavory as a teenager named "Peter Palmer". Among embarrassing misprints, that one was a whopper.

Yeah, you should try to get your protagonist's name right.

Just remembered that Jane Foster had a different last name in her first appearance as well. But the early Thor stories were a bit of a mess anyway.
